From a tax standpoint, as a 1% er, this is a good move. They really don't need the money and the tax credits for this move are amazing. Good call.

When one thing washes up, it is easy to mount a cleaning crew. Fast forward 2 years when thousands of pieces of Japan start washing up. That approach will no longer work. We need a bigger, better plan to deal with this stuff on a massive scale.

Let's get real. All life on that thing could be ended with a simple chlorine wash from a backpack sprayer. Day laborers could do it for $100, government workers for $1,000. Still a huge difference in cost from destroying it and rebuilding a new one.

As far as non-native species goes, good luck on that one. With millions of tons of floating junk from docks to houses to buses to whatever floating over here, there is no chance to restrict the infestation. Instead we need to develop plans to deal with it or maybe find some advantage from it. Head in the sand won't work in this situation.

Instead of an income tax, it should be a tax on all "artsy" stuff. Art museum entry fees, art walk parades, ballets, live theater, tax on sales from art galleries, etc, etc. No justification to tax everyone for something enjoyed mostly by the rich.

Crappy reporting. What were the numbers? He won by 6% when he took office. Was his win here by a larger or smaller margin? Give us some facts instead of this sensationalism.
