West Ham Till I Die : Stop Press: Piquionne Joins Doncaster

Freddie Piquionne on loan or with the stiffs? Does it matter either way? We're still probably paying his wages, and its not the same as him having left! A Grant desperation buy! As for Frank Nouble, he's still a young player and developing and its a shame he is put in the same cart as Piq', because there is a Vast difference between "indifference" and lack of experience!

There is never going to be the performance of perfection week in week out but to win Away from home against Cardiff is very good indeed. I believe structure and resilience wise we have a better foundation for the premiership than any other side currently seeking promotion from the championship. Leading up to this game much talk was centred on Nolan and whether he should play or resume his captaincy..... I hope this talk has been exposed as premature and foolish and people can appreciate why a player of his experience and ability is Crucial during the most important part of the season.
West Ham Till I Die : The Return of Kevin Nolan

Although our good spell has coincided with Nolan being out of the team, he is the managers choice as captain and I would naturally expect him to be reinstated as captain. A captain isn't chosen on form alone he also serves a purpose on and off the field as Big Sam has previously stated. Players like honesty and respect loyalty and he has always been clear about his captain. This is the business end of the season and despite what many may think, it's strength of character and personality which is most needed and there is no question that Nolan has that by the sack load. He has had to sit out the last three matches and he must be aware of the criticism about his form and the recklessness of that tackle which was responsible for his absence. His professional pride must've been dented by this and I predict that he will come back keener for his experience on the side lines. He also come's back to a team with new additions which will create more chances for him than the side he left. There has also been much talk of Sam Baldock being unlucky and how much of a shame it is that he has had to miss out. I'm NOT sorry for him, it's called competition and it is good for strikers, because when they get their chance they are usually keener..... as was the case. The player in form keeps the shirt when he gets his chance and Big Sam has also stated this, although the possible exception should have been the palace game where fatigue (in hindsight) was always going to be a problem.

I totally agree with you Osvaldo, I think society has changed so much that the grace and understanding has been replaced with ugency and a lack of understanding ( we have the football Billionaire's to thank for this). Unconditional support to our mutual obsession is what can make the difference between a win lose or draw. Managers often talk about the twelth man, and supporters need to understand the Phychology of unconditional support. The Intimidation factor to the opposition and the boost given to the home side should never be undrestimated.

Hi Iain, I agree with most of the posters on here that if it isn't broken DON'T try to fix it! A few minor tweaks are probably needed though. I think most people find it refreshing to follow the posted subject matters so that one more or less ends when another thread is started. I would like there to be a small announcing post to signal the start of a new thread so that we can move onto a new subject matter that sometimes get's discussed on the wrong thread. Apart from that, yourself and SJ supplemented by the occasional guest is great (inc' Braderz). Also I agree with you regarding KUMB (a site I respect and also visit).

DEFINITION of SUPPORTERS 1. A person who approves of and ENCOURAGES someone or something 2. A person who is actively interested in and wishes success for a particular sports team Some like to say that they pay their money and can do what they like but that statement is at odds with what a SUPPORTER means and DOES! It's frustrating being in the Championship but that's where we are and more importantly we ARE on track for AUTOMATIC promotion and WIN the title! I hope we as supporters can have a little more faith!

Major points Well made Osvaldo. Supporters need to put the Palace performance into perspective and suck it up. No One is happy but, we will pick ourselves up and go again..... we need to remember, we DIDN'T lose. Fatigue was always going to come into play and right now we have an experienced manager who WILL put things right. PS Good point about those spuds supporters!

Even if England won the world cup the Legend that is Bobby Moore will still cast a long shadow because not only was he an exceptionally talented footballer, he was a gentleman who led by example.
West Ham Till I Die : Who Should Play in Goal Against Palace?

It is great news that Rob Green's red card has been overturned, so that is one dilemma we won't have to face for now. Big Sam mentioned the subject of player fatigue, something which I hadn't previously thought of, but we can't afford to go into Saturdays game against palace fatigued. Lets hope we don't hit a wall on Saturday and put Palace to the sword, as our front line is as hungry as I've seen a West Ham strike force for some time. C.O.Y.I

I Also agree with ClaretBobby regarding Stech and it must be blindingly frustrating for him. But........... We are not several points clear at the top and we need experience and familiarity right now and Almunia is kicking around doing nothing and available. So I would seal the deal by the end of the day and have him in first thing on Friday in preparation for Saturday's important match.

Bang on for me Devo. Due to financial constraints, squad size and player availability Big Sam has had to use his nous, skill and man management to get us where we are, but with G&S digging deep with some smart moves in the January transfer window, we have now got the missing elements that we all knew we needed (including Big Sam!). As you rightly pointed out, it's the team that should be judged now because that's what it is. PS Agree on Big Sam regarding Nolan.

Since the 'wall match it seems that there has been a Great feel good factor, team spirit and resilience that seems to be going from strength to strength. Memories of the beaten and dejected team that was relegated without so much as a whimper has been eradicated and the collective yearning for players that have left and couldn't wait to leave this great club are a distant memory. The players that stayed with us through pride because they wanted to put right the wrongs, truly deserve to be here and appreciated for that desire to remain and get us back to where we belong. I feel there are a number of factors to explain this but I don't think it should be underestimated how much of a boost our deadline day transfer business has given the team and the whole club in general. To capture the type of players that we have, not to mention the coup pulled off by bringing in one of the most talented youngsters in the country bar none is outstanding business. We had reached the summit due to tactical nous and having to make do, which reading between the lines Big Sam has had to do as he was fully aware of the finances surrounding this club but he also had faith that the owners would (funds pending) back him where they could..... and they Have! People kept suggesting that Big Sam didn't have a clue due to the way he set out his team. You DON'T have to be a Genius to see that he "Had to cut his cloth....." (I'm sure you know the rest). It's not easy to attract the players you want to when you're skint and just been relegated to the Championship. Anyway that is the background to why I feel the performances that we have be yearning for have arrived. Not to forget that Nolan received a three match ban and the team learned to fly without him and the manager now knows he has options (I'm sure the point has not been lost on Nolan either) and I think we will find a more revitalised Nolan when he gets back. We will need Nolan should (fingers crossed) we return to the Premiership, its just that the secret is out in the open now. Maynard and Vaz Te have added the dimension that we all knew was missing (INCLUDING Big Sam believe it or not), and having had to sit on the bench as new signings rather than simply walking into the side has made them all the hungrier for it (Sam Baldock WILL get his chance). After playing the Saints, wiping the floor with them and bar the sending off would have gone and won the game, I feel the team have realised that they are top of the tree and need not fear any other team in the division. I've got a good feeling, and my nerves are beginning to ebb away and they are being replaced with a quiet confidence. The lessons learned in this division with Big Sam are vital as some of our players who were relegated as boys will return to the Premiership as men with the type of resilience that over the years I had secretly wished West Ham teams always had. Happy days! C.O.Y.I

Iain,I know I have thanked you on more than one occasion for probably one of the Best information packed interviews regarding West Ham that I have read for some time , but I would like to thank you once more as you have confirmed my beliefs that after the various characters we have had in charge of West Ham in the recent past, we have now got people in charge that are driven to do their very Best for the club. At West Ham we love people who give their all for the cause and Sullivan and Gold have done that and will continue to do so.They have made mistakes (like we all do) and have been honest enough to hold their hands up.... and we move on. I must say that the Plagiarism that your amazing interview has unleashed doesn't surprise me so much as it seems so much news is rehashed and twisted in so many different ways by the internet. As for West Ham Online, there are a few knowledgeable football people on that site but they are overwhelmed by the nonsense and drivel that exists on that site. It is definitely a site to be avoided and can be TOXIC. I think you were being kind to them Iain.
