Well you're right there. The main criticism is usually unoriginality, and as you say, it's not a very legitimate complaint if you don't say the same about writer/directors you like.

Great Page 2 Peter! Very interested in The Warriors continuation. Also, that LOTR rap doesn't hold a candle to Flight of the Conchords. Also, The Apatow Crew portrait is quite disturbing.

Truth. But if you look at it another way, having a director one trusts at the helm makes it seem more likely that a remake will live up to or surpass it's predecessor. I think that's a big part of it too.
