Big Hollywood : SyFy's 'Being Human' One of the Best Conservative Shows on TV

Gotta say I agree with you. I DVR'd many episodes when they had a recent "catch up" marathon on SyFy recently. Watched probably 5 or 6 of them, but I just got so worn down by all the emo/tortured soul/angsty dialogue and actions. The writers also have that annoying (and far too common) habit of forcing characters to make illogical decisions in service of keeping the plot moving forward. So far, I'm liking Lost Girl much better. Stories are trite, dialogue is horrible, but something keeps making me return each week. Ah yes, now I remember..... all the hot sci-fi sex going on.

Big Hollywood : The 'House' That Even-Handedness Built

I was a fan up to the point where they replaced the original "scoobies" with the room full of young doctors, then had House randomly get rid of them over the course of a few episodes. I have no problem with suspension of disbelief, but I just couldn't buy that particular show arc. Never got back into it. Favorite episode - Season one, "Three Stories," where House guest lectures to a group of students and tells them three seemingly disparate stories about people with leg pain. TREMENDOUS story telling.......

Thanks for the kind words, and for elaborating on the point. We've struggled with this issue in our Church. What amazes me is the fact that it is the folks pushing more modern worship that have shown more willingness to compromise. We've tried to propose blended services, or having one regular service a month formatted for modern worship. We get rebuffed each time from the older crowd; I get comments like "Just let me know what Sunday you guys will be doing that stuff - I will go somewhere else that day!" It gets frustrating. I get that Worship is more than a Rock Concert; I would just submit that it is more than a droning recitation session as well.

You think a 2 piece bathing suit is OK for a woman to wear on a public beach? I'm talking about a standard 2-piece - no string bikini or some such. No? how about a woman in blue jeans? That "dressing like a strumpet?" Probably not in your eyes, I am guessing. But ask the same questions in Saudi Arabia, and you get a different answer. Be leery of drawing too many lines in the moral sand, brother. There's always someone behind you drawing another one that puts you on the WRONG side in their eyes. GOD IS GOOD - ALL THE TIME!!! (Even to those in provocative clothing.......)

I'm not sure just what the point is of this post, but I will admit a portion of it bothers me on a fairly basic level. Attacking churches that use a different method to appeal to young people (ie, not "Psalty") seems like a textbook example of elitism - Christian Elitism. I was raised and am still active in the Methodist Church, but I've spent a little time visiting some fairly large non-denominational churches - mostly to pick up ideas on reaching the young folks in my Church's youth group. Kids today learn differently and process things very differently than we did even 25 years ago when I was a teenager. It is the job of Christian Disciples to reach these people via whatever means they have at their disposal - NOT to try to shoehorn modern young folks into dated archaic teaching/worship settings. And before anyone starts, I am not talking about compromising Christian principles and core beliefs. I am talking about HOW you get young people excited and committed to those beliefs. You can have both modern worship methods and timeless beliefs. Finally, I read all these dire predictions in the original post and in the comments about Katy Perry's future - when she is one of the few young starlets who (I think) hasn't been in rehab, starred in an internet video, or broken any significant laws - and I can't help but think some of you are "rooting" for her downfall, just so you can be proven right.

The great thing about FX is that they replay the episode several times during the evening, so you can always set your recorder for a later run. I think tonight it is playing at 10, 11, and 1 (EST). Don't trust my word, though - wouldn't want to be responsible for you accidentally recording "Two and a Half Men." :)

Too right. Boyd Crowder's mix of Appalachian philosophy and venomous intelligence are a great counterpoint to Raylan's literal take on the world. I only hope they don't go too far in making Boyd a heroic character - in my opinion, he functions best on the show when you are unsure just who he might take a bite out of.

I think you are dead right on all points. Mags Bennett is one of the most watchable characters (hero or villain) television has seen in the last 25 years, IMHO.

BEST. SHOW. ON. TV. I'm a relative latecomer to the series; my Dish network plan didn't add FX until just before Season 2, so I haven't even seen Season 1 yet. But I loved the charismatic honesty of season 2, and I didn't even mind the coal company subplot. I am as ardent a capitalist as you are likely to find, but I think we all can concede that there ARE companies out there that take advantage of folks for their own gain. I could cite any number of cases related to imminent domain - yes, it is the guvmint doing the land grabbing, but at the behest of the company. My only complaint about Season 2 was that they killed Mags. I would have loved to have seen her return in a few seasons ready to visit her vengeance on Raylan and his compatriots. I repeat - nothing better on television these days...

Big Hollywood : 'Daily Show' Brilliantly Exposes President of 'Civility Project' Who Smeared Tea Partiers as 'Terror

This was absolutely tremendous, but I have to agree with others here who note that this still represents < 1% of what goes on with shows like "The Daily Show." Make no mistake, people - Jon Stewart will be firing every bullet he has at the GOP nominee (whomever that is) starting around March. He will do ANYTHING to see "The One" re-elected.......

Big Journalism : When It Comes to Beating the Corrupt Media, Romney Shows Real Promise

Are you dense? The point is that the media will NOT refrain from suing everything at its disposal to attack whomever is put forward to challenge Obama. The best we can do is pick the person WE think will do the best job as President, and put that person forward. Any thought of "managing" or "outflanking" the MSM is the type of wishy-washy political approach that has landed this country in the shape it is in. If Romney's the guy, so be it. I could care less about his religion - I want our candidate to reaffirm personal liberty and responsibility in this country. But DON'T tell me to support a certain candidate because the MSM is less likely to attack him/her. That is a false premise.

When I first started reading this, I thought for sure that Nolte was just setting us up for his real analysis of the situation. Imagine my shock and dismay when I realized that JN was actually touting Romney's ability to "handle" the media. As OSweet noted previously, THIS IS JUST THE TYPE OF THINKING THAT GAVE US MCCAIN IN 2008. Oh Lord, please don't let us go down that road again. I don't know yet if Romney or Perry is the person to be the conservative candidate (I was a Pawlenty guy before he pulled out), but I do know we will lose if we base our choice on such a murky foundation. What made the Tea Party so successful originally? A very focused agenda (attacking runaway government largesse), and an utter indifference to how they were portrayed. THE TRUTH WILL OUT.

You are dead on, my friend. I am frankly AMAZED that John Nolte doesn't see this for just what it is. The MSM will ALWAYS have more ammunition to fire at nonliberal candidates. "Taking" social security away as a talking point is irrelevant.

Big Journalism : Palin and the "Conservative Intelligentsia" Backlash

I like Mrs. Palin a lot, and am outraged how so many in the celebrity and MSM world have savaged both her and her family. It is truly breathtaking just how much they seem to hate her. That said...... I just don't see her as President. She is what I call a "fast follower;" someone who takes up a popular talking point immediately after someone else brings it to her attention. I will also admit that in my personal opinion (and it is JUST an opinion) she and some members of her family are a bit too enamored of their own celebrity. I didn't like seeing Mrs. Palin on a team-up television project with Kate whatsername. Of course, I hated seeing our current President dancing on "Ellen" - maybe this just proves I am a fuddy-duddy. Finally, I have never heard a satisfactory explanation of why she resigned as Governor of Alaska. I've heard a lot of excuses, but none that I felt justified the move. If she bailed out once before in the face of dirty politics and personal vendettas, why would I think she would not do it again? One final thing - stop harassing everyone who dares to utter something critical of her. I know the Canadian moron who posted above used insightful logic like "entertaining ignoramus;" that is the left's definition of objective critical assessment. Still, not everyone does that. You folks need to let her defend herself some from legitimate criticisms - and just like everyone else in this world, there are some that can be leveled against her.

I didn't see Avatar in the theater, so I missed out on the 3-D experience. But seeing it on blue-ray on a normal sized tv, it was a major disappointment. The story was hackneyed, and the "magical world" of Pandora(?) didn't register with me at all. To put it in a simpler manner - I cannot remember the name of a SINGLE character from that movie, and the only actor I could name is Sigourney Weaver. That doesn't happen with good movies (and I mean relative to my opinion, of course)......

I really want to see this, but have been scared off by the "shaky cam" comments I have read. What degree of shaky cam are we talking about? As a frame of reference, I could easily handle the shaky cam in the first Bourne movie, but "Cloverfield" just about made me toss my cookies. It is just a physical thing between my eye and brain, I guess. Anybody able to better clarify what degree of "SHAKY" we're talking about with this?
