Sams Club, unlike Wal Mart, does not make the majority of their profit on selling items. It's their MEMBERSHIPS that bring in the profit. How hard is that for you to understand? If it wasn't for the memberships fee there would be no Sam's Club or Costco. Wholesale Warehouses don't mark up the prices on items in order to make a profit like Wal Mart does. To show this: The "old" Sams Club here in Springfield was #1 in profit for the ENTIRE company last year but only 4th in Sales. The reason why this Sams Club was #1 in profit because out of all the Sams Club in the company, this one in town has the LARGEST MEMBERSHIP BASE. At Sams you buy in bulk which allows the savings to be passed directly to you. Sams doesn't make their profit by selling items, they make it from their memberships. Also, prices are NOT better at Costco. In fact their higher. Their memberships are anywhere from 10$-50$ higher depending on which level you decide to join at. Also Yahoo sent independent investigators to Costco, Sams Club, and BJ's earlier this year and their findings showed that overall Sams Club is the best Wholesale Warehouse in terms of PRICE OF ITEMS.
