LADodgerTalk.com - THE Dodgers Blog! : Add A Starter? I Think Not!

Can I jump off topic for a second: I am angry this morning about the Angels. First they try and take "L.A." from us , now this?!? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ark1Cy8s7xN... Back off Angel of Orange County by Disney land fans. I will let the opening day murder in the stands slide but continued violence in the parking lot is a Dodger tradition. Whats next? Vladdywood?

Wade is definately not right. All I can think of is how much work he got last year. What are the chances Bellasario and Troncoso look like Wade next year? I think Pierre stays. I think the Dodgers are seriously concerned with Manny staying healthy. Lets not forget he had a hamstring issue early this year and he is 37. If Manny goes down Pierre is there (which is a lot better than plugging in Hoffman or someone else). Pitching (starting or relief) is our priority. If the cost is reasonable why not grab an extra arm for the pen. With a staff that rarely sees the 7th inning I am sure theboys in the bullpen would appreciate the help.

LADodgerTalk.com - THE Dodgers Blog! : June 23, 2009 - Dodgers vs. Chi Sox - Sans Mover

I'm praying for you Mark! Great win tonight. Kuroda did look fantastic. So did The Foundation! BRuss, A solid starter would be awesome, but who (Hu) would be expendable? I would try and hold on to J Mac if it is at all possible at least into the offseason. I think he would be a great bullpen guy down the stretch. I have my doubts that Bell-a OH SORRY-o and Troncoso will last all season (ala Corey Wade). J Mac could be a money set up guy come September. As for Manny I have to admit I saw the ABs tonight. It was good to see him again. Does anyone think theres a chance we have a let down when Manny comes back? That is my worst fear and why we must hold on to Pierre.

LADodgerTalk.com - THE Dodgers Blog! : Russ Martin is Officially Back!

Mark, The only problem with saying Beltre wants to come back is that he still has the Dodgers on his list of teams he will NOT accept a trade to. It was all over the papers last year at the trade deadline. In fact I have heard his name linked to San Fran. That would suck. I hope Bell has a bounce back year and from all acounts he looks pretty good. I think the Foundation can hold it down this year and next. 2011 it is DeWitt or Bell's turn to take over.

Martin did look great last night. I would like to see him DH tonight and let Ausmus catch Kershaw. It might be just me but I think Kershaw is better with Ausmus behind the dish (like the Florida game). This will keep Martin in the groove at the plate and give his legs a little rest. I sure hope Ellis gets a start soon. Lets give the kid a chance.! Peace guys

First of all Happy Fathers Day to all of us dads out there! I hope we all get to watch another win with our kids tonight :) It is nice to see Beltre come around. I wish he would have shown some loyalty after we suffered through so many years with his struggles before he flourished. He had a decent offer from us and never gave the Dodgers a chance to match or beat it. That said, he had just seen the teams leader traded (LoDuca) a stand up guy like Dave Roberts tossed aside. He may not have liked the direction of the club...who knows. I really like what we have in Blake, he maybe a consilation prize but he is as solid as we have had in a while. Hey Mark, how far off is Josh Bell. That kid was something else when he played in San Bernardino. Could Blake be keeping Bell's spot warm?

Captain I'm not sensitive I just have a few things to say to Mark. I think it might be better with out others opinions added to it. No worries. I love this site. Everyone will agree it's the best around!!!! You said it best Softier is at it again! Ethier is a scouts dream. He is fundamentally sound as anyone. I will tell you this much I was wrong on Matt Kemp. This kid is great and is getting better! Wear me out on this one, I'll own it. Kemp has a ways to go but he is pretty darn good! Is that understated? :)

Love the stat update BRuss! Keep 'em coming! Precious Andy was interviewed today on XM Homeplate. He seemed like a good kid. That said I don't miss him. I take Blakes stability anyday. Mark sure has a lot of photos of the Precious One. I can't help but picture Mark taking them off the wall scanning them and re-framing them all in the name of putting them on this site. That is dedication.
LADodgerTalk.com - THE Dodgers Blog! : A hero here, a hero there, everywhere a hero

Mark, __I think you are getting way too offended. You pride yourself in "calling it like it is" well what happened. Can't we do the same? Many folks are saying Martin is slipping a little. I wouldn't go as far as to accuse him of taking drugs or doing anything illegal but he is not the player he was RIGHT NOW. He may indeed improve, I hope he does. ____The CERA is a slanted stat anyway. Anybody who saw the last couple games & the rash of "wild pitches" knows that Martin could have kept half of those balls in front of him with proper positioning. Sure the stats will put it on the pitcher and the times Martin has backhanded balls in the dirt will never show up in the stat book some of you live by. Yesterdays "wild pitches" came when the ball went through Martin's legs...he only went down to 1 knee and didn't get his butt down to keep the ball out front.____Mark, Martin is no doubt tired and is getting beat up. We may be hyper-critical because he is our All Star. But If you look a little closer you'll see he has let down a little. Plenty of experts see it & plenty of us see it too.

Martin is a very good defensive catcher in spite of his lack of mechanics. He does not field the ball technically correct. He gets by on raw talent. (You are not supposed to back hand balls behind the plate for example). He is VERY good. Yadier Molina is a excellent defensive catcher. Brian McCann is pretty solid too. I put Martin right up there with them and maybe better when you factor both hitting and defense. But Mark if you go on defense ALONE, Russ has a tendency to get lazy and I think Molina is a much better pure defensive catcher. The difference between Martin & Ethier is when Ethier struggles at the plate his defense is still top notch. This year Martin should stay home. McCann and Molina should be All Stars. Especially with the game being in St. Louis. Martin could use the rest and the ego check.

Martin is better than what he is showing right now. His at bats are just horrible.I am no hitting coach but , dude. His swings are way too big! He pulls off pitches and looks like he is trying to hit everything to Pasadena. When you are struggling you should look the other way. Or focus on going back up the middle with everything. Martin came up yesterday with runners at 1st & 2nd and no outs.. He made a weak attempt at a sac bunt and then had a perfect chance to goo the other way and at least move the runners over. He was getting fastballs and sliders away (perfect opposite field stuff) and was trying to yank one! WTF!! That shows me his head wasn't in it or he was trying too hard to the heroe instead of a team player. He needs to get right soon. Martin is one of my favorite players but he has NO BUSINESS on the All-Star team this year. Maybe this reality check will do him good.

Mark has a short memory he will call Ethier soft in about a week if he doesn't hit 2 homers a day. Yet he will love LaRoche forever. Seriously Mark I think that ship has sailed. But Martin...ouch... he is brutal right now. I say he needs some serious time off. He should worry about being a defensive catcher as he does his hair. He should worry about making contact & not swinging out of his ass as much as he does his facial hair. Quite frankly the guy is a mess right now. Mental mistakes are unacceptable. His at bat in the 9th with runners on 1st and 2nd was pathetic! He can do better and we should expect better.

BRuss, c'mon I doubt they would give us much for a matching set of spare parts. Oswalt would be nice, Halliday would be better! I know Toronto is looking for middle infiled help. Hu or even DeWitt could be in that deal. I would even throw in McDonald, Elbert, and another pitcher. I am telling you guys when Manny comes back our offense is going to be rock solid again if we have have pitching we will be unstoppable. A rotaion of: Peavy, Halliday, or Oswalt Bills Kuroda Wolf Kershaw (where he belongs #5) That is unbelievably good! We will not get many opportunties to have a roster like this and be favorites. We have to go for it!

You know the thing that worries me about our team this year? It is still pitching. Milton was pretty good but still he is a 4-5 at best. I see us as having a staff full of those guys. After Bills and maybe Wolf they are all # 5 starters. Kershaw will be better as time goes by that I can understand but we are expecting too much too soon from him. Kuroda can be money but is hit and miss right now. So here is what I am wondering: I know Peavy would cost us a kings ransom, but what does that mean specifically? Who goes in a package for Peavy? McDonald, Lambo,Hu & pick up the remaining $$ on the contract? Is it more? They will want pitching and youthful major league ready guys I think. But who? I am not saying I would pull the trigger but I would like to know what we think the package would have to be. It might be worth considering it. This is our best chance in years to go all the way, why not go big?
