I would lose my mind if this were me. They couldn't keep me out. I would turn it into as much of a public fire storm as possible; what this hospital is doing is unconscionable. What if this is this couples last moments together? I do have one question - WHY did this couple not have have a power of attorney in place to protect them from this situation? CALL THE ACLU AND LAMBDA LEGAL NOW and make this profoundly public!
It amazes me when I here words like this. I just can't wrap my head around how people Like Rep. Awana think; how their minds work. HOW does who someone chooses to spend their life with affect her or anyone else in a negative way? With as much violence and ugliness that happens all over the world everyday, why would anyone possibly be against two people who love each other? It also amazes me how much the word "sex" is brought up. Yes, "sex" is a part of almost every committed relationship but it is such a TINY part! Marriage is not about sex; it is about family, about shared lives, it is about personal commitment and it is first and foremost about love. Why on this earth would anyone want to deny anyone else the right to have a family of their own choosing and all of the love that goes with it? I simply can not understand where Rep. Awana is coming from but her sentiment seems so wrong on such a fundamental level.
Already did! That's how I found out that Lambda Legal was already in the process of the lawsuit for the state of Nevada. There has been much talk of legalizing same sex marriage in the state but it wasn't even projected to be presented until 2016. Because they have opened the door, this lets Lambda legal strengthen the case for legalization and helps expedite what has already been started but is moving slower than snails in syrup.
No, unfortunately ENDA pertains only to discrimination in the workplace, hence the name Employment Non Discrimination Act. It is designed to prevent employers from making hiring, disciplinary or termination decisions based on sexual orientation.
He says "lifestyle" because he believes that sexual orientation is a "choice" rather than a biological fact. Like many bigots, he is ignorant because he rejects education on the subject, and that act of intentional ignorance IS a choice.
I am standing right beside you, pwrblnc. My partner and I celebrated 8 years in June and have lived in Henderson, NV or 4 years. We left Anchorage, Alaska which doesn't even have protection against orientation based discrimination in the workplace or residential rental markets, and no recognition of same sex partnerships, let alone marriage so Nevada was a step up but we are still second class citizens. We would stand beside you in a lawsuit for equal rights and I know we are not alone in that sentiment - it's just not something i had ever though of before as a possibility. 15 (or is it 16?) states now allow real, honest to goodness - not a half assed something or other by another name but actual SAME SEX MARRIAGE. I thought we were the UNITED States of America?! Why do we behave like the DIVIDED States of America? Why are citizens treated as equals in one state but not another?
