Apathy is a vote against oneself but nevertheless if only 8,000 people voted then the person who gets 4001 votes or greater is the duly elected person and Mayor of Rome. But to put this into the proper context in 1999 Joe Griffo won the mayors race with 68% of the roughly 9,000 votes casted that year; since then the population has decreased in the city so this is not an unexpected number of voters, at least not to me. The officer did their jobs correctly here, they were faced with what appeared to be a life or death situation and took the appropriate actions. It is very sad for everyone, these officers have to live with the fact that they took the life of a young man/kid who ended up not having a gun, and the family of the victim has to live the loss of a loved one at such a young age; very tragic all the way around.
