Earth ponies are often unsung heroes because many take food for granted.

IRL food patents can be worth in millions if not billions. Also, companies guard that stuff better than weapons.

I don't believe that she actually cares about the happiness of her cult. They were clearly forcing it. They were miserable but felt that they had to act happy because they are supposed to be happy that they are equal.

Her speeches about equality, cutie marks and friendship are clearly lies, a means to control the masses.

Once you get past the intellect, charisma and clever speeches, she's clearly nothing more than a dictator who loves her power.

The two have rather different circumstances even if they seem similar on the surface.

Diamond Tiara felt pressured to not only live up to her mother's expectations but also felt railroaded regarding her cutie mark. She felt that she had to follow in her mother's hoofsteps and let her cutie mark define her, but she later saw that she didn't need to be like her mother. She defined her cutie mark.

Starlight Glimmer is an adult and clearly made her own choices and developed her own set of values regarding cutie marks and friendship. She's also been stalking Twilight for months after the Equalists' coup. If she truly believed in friendship despite the different views in the meaning of friendship and cutie marks, she should have seen how friendship (including cutie marks) improved ponies' lives.

It's more likely that what Starlight wants isn't friendship but rather control over others. Given that, it's likely that she won't be redeemed. No heartwarming speech will make a pony dictator give up their power.

When the cmc got their cutie marks, I stared in shock as my jaw dropped to the ground. It was like that for 30 min.

I agree. I think a large part of those vocal, offended individuals aren't really part of the group they're speaking for.

In that case, that is rather presumptious, and in my personal opinion, a bit patronizing actually because to act like a person has to walk on eggshells in order to prevent conflict or offense isn't really helping in acceptance but rather distancing them.

The ideal would be to treat them respectfully as equals.

Like boop said, you're not in the LGBT group nor do you represent them.

You are presuming that it is offensive.

Example: some people assumed that Derpy was offensive to autistics, most of them were not offended. Many felt that she was funny and cute.
