Thanks to Chuck for the timely letter and his support of my campaign. An analysis of Congressman Polis' 2010 Financial Disclosure reveals his real view of the American economy. http://www.harrisagainstcongress.com/blog/jared-p...

Democrats and Republicans got us into this mess. They will not get us out of it.

It is interesting to note that this story has no supportive comments.

My initial reaction to this latest Polis crusade was to dismiss it as more nanny-state interference from an over-reaching Federal government. But then I realized this is actually smart Federal policy. We face a gargantuan Federal debt that continues to grow with each new Federal program, i.e. the healthcare bill. Congressman Polis supports all of this spending, creating the need for his Healthy School Meals Act.

Our children and grandchildren will be paying off the Federal debt. To do that, they will need to be healthy and strong so that they can work long hours at multiple jobs. Getting them used to eating nothing but vegatables will allow them to grow their own food. Fewer trips to the grocery store will enable them to pay the debt off even faster.

The additional future Federal tax revenues this program will create are well worth its $50 million cost.

Ms. Stutzman,

Please save this editorial and republish it in 2016 side-by-side with an accurate account of the condition of our healthcare system at that point. Also include data on the value of the dollar, the Federal debt, GDP, and unemployment.

If you are so out-of-touch or biased that you do not know these facts for yourself, then I cannot help. See Robert Chisolm's coment. We do facts, but not remedial fact lessons.

Robert Porath - You are starting to understand that there is very little difference in the results produced by our Federal government due to D's or R's being in charge. Since Obama took office, the only difference is the greater volume of Federal spending and the increased rate of Federal government expansion. Bailouts continue. Afganistan continues. Partisan wrangling continues. America's decline continues.

Real and positive change will come only from breaking the grip these two parties have on our nation's throat.

Taxes are not the problem. Spending is the problem. For example, the surplus Social Security and Medicare tax revenue collected over the past 50 years was spent on general government programs. Now we face over $56 trillion in unfunded liabilities for these two programs. There will never be enough tax revenue to cover the out-of-control spending of the U.S. Congress.

The income tax is grossly unfair. 47% of households pay no income tax. We are close to the point where a majority of people will, for their own benefit, be able to vote to tax a minority. Until, of course, that minority no longer exists.

If Buffet, Gates, and other similar individuals think they should pay more taxes, there is nothing to stop them from donating their money to the government. They are hypocrites. They advocate higher taxes on income while sheltering their assets from taxation.

The 2011 income tax increases will harm marginal incentives to create income and will not result in significant new revenue. They will, however, do further harm to the economy and job creation.

We cannot tax our way out of a spending problem.

Six letters, 4 to 2 against Obamacare, in the Daily Camera. Is this editorial progress? :)

I'll add another item to Spiffy's excellent list.

"I urge Democrats to use their momentum to continue moving us toward a sane and prosperous future for all citizens." Mr. Ensign - Are you quoting Karl Marx?

Socialism is proven by history to be the antithesis of prosperity and happiness.

The nanny state knows no boundaries. Will we suffocate under the blanket of good intentions?
