The problems with this are several: = Revolvers do not expel spent brass; it stays in the gun. = It's possible to catch all the spent brass as you shoot with any gun that does expel brass. There are attachments just for this purpose already made and commonly used by shooters who don't want to bend over and pick up brass. = The shooting has been done by the time the brass is collected by police, so it's obvious this scheme doesn't work to prevent anything. = People who steal guns (that would be almost all gang bangers and criminals) won't care what the micro-stamping might reveal, since the gun trace won't come back to them. = The scheme only works if there is gun registration, which may be in place in NY, but is not a practical political possibility on the federal level. You are correct on one topic: the Northwestern part of the place is full of emotion driven left wing whack jobs of all ilk, especially Seattle. However, let me offer some clarity on other characteristics of the place: 1. It is a "shall issue" state for concealed weapons permits and has been since at least the 1930s, meaning if you want to carry a concealed pistol and you have no felony convictions or involuntary mental health commitments, you pay a small fee (not sure about the initial fee these days - I've had one for 30 years) and get a card good for, I think, five or six years. The renewal is $35. You are not obliged to demonstrate you know anything about guns, on the theory that you don't need to demonstrate competence to exercise other civil rights, so. . . 2. It is a "castle doctrine" state, meaning you can shoot to kill anybody who assails you in a place you are legally permitted to be if you reasonably feel your life or limbs, or those of others, are threatened. You have no duty to retreat before defending yourself. You can't be sued for a righteous shooting. 3. If you kill someone and claim self defense, the prosecutor can try you for murder, but if you're acquitted he has to pay all your legal costs. 4. You can (and I do) carry your concealed weapon into the State Capitol if you have a license. Courtrooms, prisons, schools are off limits, but just about every place else is OK. 4. Much of the state, outside of Seattle and suburbs, is pretty conservative. Idaho and Montana are much better places to live, but the job is in Washington.
