Winter Is Coming : GRRM: Blackfish not in first season

It's entirely possible that all the Riverrun lords could be helmeted or unfocused extras for the "King in the North" scene, which gets revisited in the first episode of second season as they introduce all the Riverrun lords properly. It would require a little cheating, but would be eminently doable.

Now that you know the lay of the land, ask people AT the production which extra casting agency is the right one to ask and make sure that's the one you bug the most.

For that scene I was thinking something like one of these: soprano boy Memorial from the cook the thief his wife and her lover Green Bird Powder From Bebop SPOILERS I particularly like Memorial, because it's awesome as a recurring theme for when "Life goes on after bad stuff happens". Not the music for when the bad thing happens, but the aftermath...I can imagine it after brans fall, after visceris's crowning, after ned's beheading, after the fall of winterfell, after halfhand and Ygritte's passing, after Dany acquires her eunuch army, after the red wedding, after the red viper goes down, after Tywin fails to pass gold...It's first use could be after Gared's beheading, on the way back home before the direwolf discovery.

Just say no to midevil music. Seriously. Yuck. I'd prefer rock or pop to it: even LOTR had a bit of modern sounding ballads in it. Standard scoring all the way, Orchestral and more. Fast percussion for action, soaring strings for passion, soprano boys choir for eerie scenes or violent plot twists. Something akin to the music used (repurposed for) any of the fan made trailers would be just fine. In a perfect world, every location, house, story arc, and scene type would have it's own theme. That sort of thing makes complicated stories like this one that much easier to keep track of what's going on.

Winter Is Coming : George confirms Tena as Osha

An underdog making his place in the world using only his sword and his wits coming from a nothing background to make his own play for a lordship? A Magnificent Bastard who gets some of the best quips short of Tyrion himself? Nah, I can't see why anyone would like him either.

Alright, this calls for my own reason for disliking jerome for the part. He's got a face like Hugh Laurie or Jon Lithgow: sort of an elongated forehead Scandinavian look. He looks like a comedian rather than a warrior. If they can get him roughed up to look Rutger Hauerish, he may work as a warrior type, but Viking wasn't what I was expecting for Bronn. What I WAS looking for wasn't Dominic West either, but was in the Ray Stevenson or someone with his look (Vinnie Jones?) camp. Someone who might be cast as a mob guy.

because I'm not sure they can all really get into their characters if they haven't read all 3500 pages, and all the fan plot speculation on westeros. Otherwise, they're just slackers. :P

Yeah...They went a whole different way with Bronn. Completely not the face I was expecting. Just going to require an adjustment of my mental picture is all, there's nothing about his features that are really plot necessary,

Stand in is the greatest gig in the business. You get paid for sitting on your ass reading, listening to your ipod, or watching your portable dvd player, and snacking on the craft service. Oh, and helping with the lighting (your actual job) 'till they are ready for the real actors.

Winter Is Coming : Jory signs, the rest backgrounded

Heh, that ties into on of my Wild Arse Theories: That Sandor will save Brienne from Uncat, take her to Alaine where both swear fealty to her. Alaine then uses the fact she has two of the baddest knights to get out from under Petyr. How does this tie in? Sandor's looks is how they get through the mountain clans because nobody messes with the Burned men, the more they've burned, the more they're respected.
despite that description, though, there's no STORY reason for her to be any of those. No important significant past battle where she got the scars, no tight underground squeezes where she barely makes it through due to her wirey lack-of-boobsness, no tests of strength that challenge those wiry muscles, so none of those descriptions are important so far as the tv show is concerned, and can therefore be ignored. The only story required feature is that she not be in a position to have caught Theon's eye (because we know what a hound dog out squidboy is).

There is no story reason for Osha to have any distinguishing characteristics other than being conceivably a wildling. She could be any age, any hair, any size for all it would affect the story. Not a problem if they change her drastically (though going Asian or Black may be a tough sell)

Winter Is Coming : Lena Headey talks Thrones

I have still never read any Sookie Stackhouse books, nor Harry Potter, though I do appreciate True Blood and the HP movies. On the other hand, I've never gone to any of their boards for fear of spoilerage. This means that I basically don't really care much about what the die hard fanbases of either community feel about the live action counterparts. I just watch the shows. I expect similar reactions from Game of Thrones watchers about die hard ASOIAF fan freakouts. Is the Wall gonna be 700 ft tall? No. Messes with the arrow scenes. That's obviously a measurement snafu in the books of the type that GRRM hates getting trapped into (same reason he hates maps, because then he has to worry about fans trapping him about travel times other than speed of plot). 40 horse drawn wheelhouse? Puh-leese. Cercei and Gregor played smart? Among half a dozen other terms thrown into their character descriptions? Clearly I'm a fanboi because my freakout meter still ain't budging. Heck, the Manderlys might just be fat rather than obese. Oh, also: echo echo echo echo echo.....

It's actually important to avoid reading source materiel when adaptation is necessary. It's only use is when the director doesn't have an idea for you. The more important a character you play, the less important it is to have an idea about your character compared to being able to read your director and give the performance (s)he's looking for. This is directly related to the amount of attention the director has for your character, which is why background info is more important for smaller roles, where the less the director has to spend time with you, the more attention he can spend with his more important characters getting exactly what he's looking for. Not knowing exactly what's going to happen in the future for a character can be important to get authentic reactions based on current events.
