Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- Have You Ever Hit a Junkyard Jackpot?

During the neverending quest for a tailgate for my '66 F100, a buddy of mine took me to a junkyard in Grantsville, Utah. The place was just a paradise. Just about everything you could think of from the forties up to the mid seventies. Straight eight Buick Roadmaster sedanette? Check. '55 Cadillac converted into a motorhome? Yep. V12 American LaFrance? '48 Lincoln limo? More Studebaker Hawks than you could count? Yes. The place was amazing. The guy said that the city council was making noises about condemning the whole thing, and he was willing to deal to save the impressive collection of cars. I wanted to take at least a dozen of them home with me, but would have settled for the tailgate. Did he have one? Of course not.

Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- What's the World's Wildest Engine Swap You Can Find?

Another Tuesday answer. The Honest Charley Ford V8 60 bike (because the Boss Hoss is too obvious). Not really a swap, custom frame, but it looks like it could be. Titled as a '72 or so Honda 750 because of the forks and steering head. I read about this bike years ago, and I swear to God right after I moved here to Tombstone a local antique dealer Hoon bought it, and rode it down the street. I ran up and stared. Like a grinning idiot. This same exact bike, no shit. Stock V8 60, straight pipes, the thing sounded just heavenly. Only one gear, Jim said that he had to slip the clutch to get it going, but once on the road, it cruised along just fine, kept up with Harleys and the like just fine. As long as your ass could withstand the hardtail frame. One of the most unique and just plain badass bikes I've seen. Who cares if you can't feel your ass after riding it for fifty miles? <img src="http://www.richmondlabs.com/Automotive/RichmondV8/FH15.jpeg">

I almost hate to say it, but this is a prime candidate for LeMons. You could probably sell the intact rear window for some pretty good money, and spend that on cheaty engine and suspension bits. Make two of the team members dress up like the Wilson sisters from Heart. There ya go.

The EV Midget story just got me right here. Man, that is so cool, and such a Hooniversal success story that it's just a shoo-in for the HCOY award this year. You've got to love the whole epic story, from the basement to the Bonneville Salt Flats. And, it's a Utah story, and I used to live there. Icing on the cake. Happy New Years to my fellow Hoons!

I completely agree, a Pinzgauer (I just love spelling that) belongs in every Hoon's garage or driveway. The Mog is just way over the top, which we like here too, but I'd settle for a Pinzgauer, as well.

Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- What Car Gadgets Have Been Around For Years But Never Seemed to Really Catch On?

I've got one for my '66 F100. That truck is way too easy to steal. Of course, all you need to do is hacksaw through the steering wheel and remove the Club and you can steer the vehicle, but still, it seems to work. The truck isn't stolen yet.

Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- 2002-2005 Thunderbird, Collectible or Forgettable?

I have some good friends who had one of these 'Birds, and they loved it, the wife especially. They're not the blue-haired lady and golf slack wearing geezer types, either. They're Hoons, actually. When they sold it, somebody of the above said demographic bought the 'Bird, and it's in good hands. The new owners love it even more. Myself, I have no problem with T-Birds of this vintage, I think they capture some of the essence of the original. The original wasn't a screaming road burner, but a cruiser as well. Oh, my friends needed a new toy after they got rid of the T-Bird, so they got a '66 Chevy stepside beater pickup truck to tool around in out in the desert, and to pull their vintage travel trailer. Pure class.

These wagons are all just gorgeous, I'd have a hard time choosing. The Vista Cruiser is probably the pick of the litter, I've always loved the windows in the roof. That and the aircraft carrier sized '71 Chevy, because clamshell tailgate.

Badass. Another great literary detective ride, sort of, is Travis McGee's Miss Agnes. It was a Rolls Royce from I believe the thirties on a Dodge truck frame, with a 440. Homemade truck bed. It's a major character in several of those books, along with the houseboat he lived on.
