Big Peace : With the Iraq War Over, Americans Wonder Whether It Was Worth It

Hi, I'd say the fledgling democracy is more like an out of control blow torch (comparatively speaking) and the proof of that is that citizens all across the Islamic landscape are overthrowing their dictators one after the next as they have been empowered by our example set in Iraq and Afghanistan to do so. This is both good and bad, good in the sense that we want democracy in the M.E. and bad because we might just get what we wished for.. Heh, thanks for your thoughts it was a good read..

Just a couple things to think about.. Iran is now surrounded by a free Iraq and a free Afghanistan (more free than before anyway) and Arab dictatorships are crumbling as a result. Iran and Syria could still dissolve from within and indeed it seems that Assad's days are numbered.

So the only time we should go to war is after the carnage has already occured? After a country has been invaded and crushed and its citizens murdered? C'mon, you're better than that.. The true test of whether this war was worth it or not will come if and when we see free Iraqi citizens snapping pictures of the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty and Niagra Falls et. al. and not before then.. Even the Japanese didn't start doing that until 20 or 30 years after WWII..

Big Peace : Dustoff Helicopters: Violating Geneva Conventions in Afghanistan

Not so fast,.. Aside from the legal implications, the question of capability also arises. Ideally you want a vehicle that can defend itself during extraction in hostile environments, but hardware is heavy and every bit you add decreases the lift for other equipment such as medical/life support gear, how many wounded the ship can take off with etc.. It's not a cut and dry situation that absolutely needs to change so far as I know, but in general yes, I think the ships should pack heat if and when they can.

There's still a lot of ground to cover in sci-fi before succumbing to remakes.. What about the Foundation trilogy? A.E. Van Vogt anyone? I can think of dozens of classics that would warrant making before the skullduggery of another hapless remake..

Oh god, not the tired old love triangle gag again, it's worse than running over a fruit cart or crashing a helicopter behind a hill by far. If they'd only let me write an episode, just one episode... It would start out with a huge, tattered and torn poster of hope and change and the burned out barack-cade at the White House.

Everyone should know where their local National Guard armory is. Ours is 2 blocks away from the house and is packed full of post-apocolyptic goodies in a heavily-reinforced cement building that can withstand just about anything except a direct hit from a nuke attack or an old guy like me that can jump a barbed wire fence and use a cordless hammer drill to remove a door knob.

Well if everyone was dead (undead or whatever) the first thing I'd do is get a brand new vehicle right off the lot. Why drive a 1980 POS when factory new is all over the place? I suppose a decked out 1/2 ton truck would do the trick and would run over zombies just fine. Then again, I've always wanted a brand spanking new RV too.

How many "protesters" get "abused" when the EPA comes in and shuts down an entire city like Ken Salazar did with Grand Junction Colorado? I remember when they quarried gypsum for drywall and pumped oil for gas. All shut down now to protect plague infested prarie rats while the population languishes.
