Basic classical shows your neighbours prosperity will help you, if there is free trade etc. National prosperity is not a zero sum game.
Brexiters need to read Adam Smith.

I agree with much that is written here. But on our relations with Russia and China, i would add that we need to be very careful about their propaganda and financial influence. When HSBC and Standard Chartered announced support for the new HK national security law (while not knowing what was in it!), the UK gvt should have slapped them on the wrist. We can not allow China to bully UK companies.
And why is the Conservative Party apparently so dependent on foreign money? The reluctance of the gvt to publish the report on Russian influence in UK politics is deplorable. If there is a problem here, the fastest way to eliminate it is for it to exposed. Not to let it fester.
In both cases 'global Britain" seems not so much a lion on the world stage but a cowed kitten.

If what you say is right, I have a reason to thank Sinn Fein. I never thought I'd say that. Interesting article, thanks.

For a government that believes it has a duty to help Britain 'take back control', this is an astonishing decision. It reminds me of Germany's Nord Stream deal with Russia. Short sighted, a case of national security compromised by desire to save a few quid.

Totally agree. Massive potential here, however the UK's service-orientated economy makes it hard to see easy openings. Also worth commentating that we should be increasing trade with Indonesia and the S.E Asia region irrrespective of Brexit outcome. Not sure why being in the E.U hinders us from global trade, when it doesn't hinder Germany, NL or Italy all of whom do more as a proportion of their exports.

Why have you spent 30 years working for our ' national independence'? Did anyone ask you to? Is it threatened in some way? You might perhaps have used the time better.

Farage's Brexit party will take votes away from UKIP and Conservatives. Proof that revolutions eat their children.

If those Brexit-addictedTories could not only vote UKIP/ Brexit Party, but leave the Tory party as well, then our party might finaly be able to re-group under some Conservative values. Such as: tolerence, an appreciation of the role of business, a desire to keep Scotland and N Ireland in the Union (that goes beyond keeping the DUP on side), a rejection of identity poiitics in favour of the individual, free trade (which means remaining in the world's most largest free trade group of countries), and a distrust of gvt planning.
