The Alpaca Guy : National Elite Alpaca Auction - Results

Ah the ole' messenger blame game. If you believe Don that reporting a bust sale is in someway not beneficial to the industry then I'm sorry, but this is how news operations work. I think your argument should really be directed more towards the breeders who are as you say the "greedys" in the business, and forcing animals into a down market. To someway hold back publicly a poor sale price is tainting the image of the Alpaca industry and would do nothing but keep people wanting to know in the dark. All successful industries need some kind of transparency, much of which is relayed by sources of news providers. Celebrity Sales are responsible for the authenticity of their client's sales; I simply post results for our readers. If this in someway offends you, then I am sorry for that, but we must all move on.

I agree with you on the overflow of auctions Don. Although I will also have to respectfully disagree on your notion of not posting alpaca auctions on the Alpaca Guy. What good is it doing? Well it's providing data for breeders to make their own opinions on the market. I think for breeders to not "want to learn that most of the alpacas didn't sell at auction" is a disservice to everyone. Sure it might not be the happiest piece of information, but in my opinion knowing what ISN'T selling is just as important as what IS selling.

But Jack, if an animal doesn't sell we should actually make their sale price as $0, which looks even worse. I have nothing against the Accoyo market other than statistics- they aren't selling at auction. As you stated, three Accoyos did not sell, which means not a person was bidding...My information shows that quality is selling better than simply a stigma such as "Accoyo" or whatever label. If the high-selling male or female at this auction were Accoyo in this sale they would probably sell at the same price...My point is that breeders can no longer sell an animal at day 1 purely on the "Accoyo" name; at least not in this market.

The Alpaca Guy : Finally, a One-Hour Alpaca Auction

Sources have reported that nearly 2,500 people tuned in for the auction. Supposedly the site's server could not handle the traffic spike and crashed for many tuning in (including myself). There will be a follow-up article written on where the "One-Hour Alpaca Auction" will go from here.
