KVAL - Eugene, OR : Concealed handguns: OK on public school property? | Local & Regional News | Eugene News, Weather, Sp

My only concern about Concealed Weapons Permits is that I think that you should show periodically that you have some sort of firearms certification test. Something showing that you at least have shot the gun and that you know how to hit your target. And that you understand what happens if you choose to draw your weapon and fire it. Understanding what's around and behind your threat before you shoot. Last thing you want to do is shoot someone that is behind the threat. It's all about common sense and knowing what's right and what's wrong. Teaching our kids to respect life and others. I grew up around guns and I have turned out ok. Because my parents had taught me about right and wrong. To make good decisions. To appreciate life, to care for others. Treat others how you wanted to be treated.

Gun control isn't the answer. Taking guns away from everybody is not the answer. They didn't have gun's back in 800 AD and they were still killing people. People were still dying by other weapons before guns. You know weapons like bows and arrows, swords, clubs etc.... If somebody wants to lose all touch of reality, common sense and just lose it and make a bunch of bad decisions they will find a way. If I wanted to cause mass casualties I could use an suv and drive through the saturday market. And probably take out more people than a firearm could. I could even steal a bus. If a person wants to kills somebody there are plenty of other ways to do it. Are you going to take baseball bats away? Are you going to take driving rights away from people? You can't make a law for everything in life. There is no 100% protection from bad things or situations happening. I'm sorry people get in touch with reality.

So let me ask all of you gun haters a question. So what you are saying is that if a fired teacher walks in to a school and just wants to shoot everybody up including kids you wouldn't want to have someone around that has a concealed weapons permit. Someone that could possibly stop kids or innoccent victims from being killed? You would rather call 911 and wait for the police to show up 3 minutes later! And still take a couple of minutes to find out what is going on and to locate the shooter! A RESPONSIBLE CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT HOLDER WOULD TRAIN WITH THEIR FIREARM SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR. At least I hope they would. I train at least once a month!

I am instilling the base for my kids to be good people in life.To make the good decisions in life. To understand right from wrong. Respect for themselves and for others. I hope to God they don't end up in trouble with the law. I will do everything possible to help them understand why. It takes a lot of patience. I'm not saying that I'm perfect. But I know one thing. I haven't been to jail or arrested. I try to treat others how I want to be treated. It takes a lot of patience to raise kids. It even takes more patience to teach them right from wrong. And how important it is to have respect for yourself, others, honor and integrity. The foundation for knowing whats right and whats wrong.

There must not be any armed gangters in Los Angeles because they have very strict gun laws. they must be using slingshots to shoot the rival gangs cause they can't legally carry firearms.... Hmmmm see anything wrong here. THEY AREN'T GOING TO FOLLOW THE LAW IN THE FIRST PLACE. It doesn't matter what the consequences are....! Get it through your head people. There are people that decide to make the right choices in life. And there are people that choose to make the wrong decisions in life. The wrong choices don't make them follow the rules. Can you people just get it through your heads. You want to stop people from breaking the law then teach your kids respect, honor and integrity. My 4 year old can sing the whole star spangled banner. Learned it in two weeks. You know what he said to my wife one day. Mommy, Daddy tought me the important song. My two year old can almost sing it word for word. Not as clear. My kids say their own prayers at night. What they are thankful for.

Here we go again. Common sense goes out the door. You can make any law you want. It's only going to hurt the innocent people. The people that are breaking the laws are the ones that OBVIOUSLY don't care about the law. So what's another law do. NOTHING. How is it supposed to protect people when the people when the people making the wrong choices aren't going to follow the rules anyways. They have made the decision to hurt or take something from somebody. They don't care about a law. If you're going to ban guns from parks at least don't ban people that have carry permits. They have passed a background investigation. They aren't just handed out to everybody. Those who commit crimes typically have a past of committing crimes. They won't get a permit.

Soup your an idiot. It's not that we're scared! It's the fact that we are prepared in the event of a life threatening situation. Look at it this way. Why does the United Stated have a military? Why does any country have a military? It's because in the event of somebody trying to come over and take over our land and kill our citizens. Why do I have a CHL. In the event that someone would come in to a restaurant and point a gun at my family or somebody else in the restaurant. Or like the event in AZ. If there was someone carrying right next to the state rep then their probably wouldn't have been 6 people dead and 14 or so injured. Actually AZ just got rid of it's CHL's. You can carry concealed if you want....

I have a CHL. I can carry my weapon in most places. And you know what. If the crap hits the fan you better damn well believe that my life, my families life and any other innocent victim's life will have a 99% survival rate. Cause I train at least once a month at the police action range. Not cause I want to draw my weapon. But because if I had to draw my weapon I could do so accurately without any collateral damage. I understand the dynamics involved in pulling my weapon. Identifying the target, Knowing whats around and behind my target. Understanding what the best options are for pulling the trigger or not pulling the trigger. There was a quote I read one time by this guy that basically said. People shouldn't worry about the CHL holders. They should feel safe. Cause if that guy is smart about packing his weapon he could very well save your life in a life threatening situation. Law Enforcement aren't everywhere! Most dispatched calls have a arrival time of more than 2mins 30 sec. That's more than enough time for a bad guy to take you out.

Why don't we stop waisting our tax dollars on stupid laws that won't affect the criminals. Here we go again putting more laws in place that hurt the law abiding citizens. Now on the other argument where Okamoto wants private sales to go through a background check I don't mind that. Cause if I was going to sell one of my guns to somebody I don't know I would sure as hell want to make sure that I wasn't giving a gun to a convicted felon. I think private sales having to go through background checks is ok. But how are you going to enforce it? There we go more money down the tubes. You can't People you can't make a law for everything that's going to happen in life. Nothing is perfect. Never will. Bad guys will always find a way to get guns. They will always find a way to inflict harm on others.

Here again people have too much time on their hands. 1 CHL holders information should not be public. It's like raising a flag about their house. Hey bad guys I have guns that you can ILLEGALLY OBTAIN for your lawless use. Stake out my house and wait for me to leave the house so you can steal my guns. Any responsible gun owner would buy a standing gun safe to prevent theft. But anyways. Has common sense just evaporated out of peoples minds. ITS NOT THE PEOPLE WITH CHL'S THAT ARE SHOOTING/KILLING PEOPLE. It's the ones that don't even go through the process to get a permit. Why get a permit if I'm going to break the law.DUH. Cause that's the bad guys alibi. Cop show up at his door. Excuse me sir you're the suspect of a robbery at gunpoint at a local 7-Eleven. Well sir I don't even own a gun. So now if they don't find a gun on record or they don't find it in his house then they have no case unless they have a positive ID.

Here's a suggestion for the ahole's that are saying that this is a waste of taxpayer dollars and time. Why don't you walk up to Chief painters 7 year old son and tell him that. You look that little 7 year old boy in the eyes and tell him that you think that this funeral is a waste of tax payer dollars and time. You know it's people like that that don't care about others. We are all human. We should all take a minute and pay respects. Just think it could have been your funeral. That could be your child walking their dead father to the funeral. Because some drunk driver killed you while you were walking down the street. Do you not have any remorse?

But there's one financial part of our budgeting that we can't ever decrease and that's LE and Emergency services.Let the man have the respects that he deserves.
