Alicia, I love the idea of making a butternut squash like a potato. Shaved on salads sounds good, too! I have a pet peeve about carrots - I never use them up fast enough. Maybe I should use squash instead!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi BlueMoose,
Thanks so much for commenting!
Yes, NOT leaving a bunch of stuff can actually be a great gift to your loved ones. From Glady's comment above yours and my response both echo your insight. The memories you make WITH people will be lasting gifts. No need to leave volumes of "could be worth somethings" for loved ones.

Glady - I'm so sorry. Going through clutter stuff when your heart is grieving is so tough. Been there. I inherited 3 bedrooms full of junk. Most of it was sentimental stuff. I found that having a trusted friend (or 9) help sort it out helps a lot. I got the most helpful advise from those who had a natural clean streak - the ones whose houses have nothing on the counters. They had NO issue with donating and selling stuff. (I usually had 1 friend around who was a keeper - the type that has lots of sentimental stuff at home. That person's job was to be sure the clean one didn't talk me out of keeping something I would really regret.)

Once you have stuff sorted into a big donation pile, perhaps invite the family over. If something is important to them they can take it back to their home to live. And, if you have little kids, their parents can hold stuff for them for when they are older so you don't have to. Little by little, you can do it. Be sure you keep a couple of things that have the best memories. (They might not be worth a single cent to anyone else.) Thanks so much for dropping by and for sharing your story.. It means a lot.

We loved it, too!
My honey took it to work after Christmas and they thought he was nuts - until they understood and started to eat it!
