Friggin' lawyers. If there were no lawyers, we wouldn't need them. My wife was teaching my teenage daughter to drive and there was a minor single-car accident. Not longer after, my wife gets an unsolicited letter from Law Office of Raymond J. Bradley regarding the starting of a claim. The letter states that they have read the police report and suggests she be represented by an "experienced and knowledgeable" attorney. "You can trust me" "My firm is aggressive" "We fight for the underdog" What, are we going to sue our daughter? And we wonder what's wrong with our country.

An errant ball, thrown by a professional pitcher and hitting a kid is hugely different than an adult hit by an errant 11-year-old catcher's throw. Even in professional sports, the catcher doesn't hit the pitcher with a 90+ mph fast ball. Still, kid or adult, if you're at a game, there's a chance if getting hit with the object in play. Sorry, no windfall for you either.

If he can throw a ball that hard at 11, I'm betting the scouts, agents, etc, are lining up for this kid. And he's just a catcher? Now comes the congressional witch hunt on the use of steroids in little league.

This is what happens when you put the child's "self-esteem" over the actual discipline and welfare of the child. Police patrols to protect these little ba***rds?? Really??? OK, maybe death threats are a bit over the top but these little s**ts need to face the consequences for their actions. Perhaps a little fear in their lives is a good thing. Obviously they don't fear the school or their parents.

If the grand jury had not ruled on the case, the pacifist nut-jobs would have come out saying "he didn't deserve a death sentence," it was racially motivated and that the authorities weren't doing their job.
KATU - Portland, OR : Large union endorses Oregon Cannabis Tax Act | Business | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffic

The unions want in on this action?? Then do the job to supply the product at competitive rates. I understand the state getting it's cut but, really, what interest do unions have? As soon as you start taxing a product, there is incentive for illegal trade. The higher the taxes, tariffs and bureaucratic BS, the more profitable the illegal trade and the higher the incentive. When will these politicians (and unions) EVER get that through their fargin' heads???

Excellent points I hadn't considered. I too was involved in search and rescue for many years. Over time I became a bit jaded as I found the vast majority of "victims" met the tragedy as a result of there own stupidity. What began to made me downright angry is that these people generally took innocent people with them. Hiking - OK Traversing an icy ledge, with a 1000' drop and no safety lines - stupid. Hiking up a mountain with a winter storm forecast, REALLY STUPID!! Fishing - OK Fishing in small overloaded boat in heavy current with no life jacket - stupid. Fishing on the Columbia River Bar in an overloaded lake boat with no life jacket - REALLY STUPID!! Biking - OK Biking on a busy street in traffic - stupid. Biking on a two-lane, busy, curvy highway with no shoulder - REALLY STUPID!! Skateboarding - OK Skateboarding without a helmet - stupid. Riding down West Hills at highway speeds with no helmet - REALLY STUPID.

Obviously I hope the climber is OK. I understand the thrill but, with such adventures come certain risks. Losing one's own life and limb, for example. But, such a rescue (or recovery) effort is rather expensive. Who's going to pay for this person's sense of adventure?
