Sorry but twelves years as a naval officer sort of makes me look at those kinds of things. Get over it. When it steps that far out of step with believability it's worth noting.

It was fun, but IT WAS NOT TREK. If that is the state of Star Fleet Command, then they might as well surrender to the Klingons now. I could suspend belief except for TWO issues. A Starfleet Commander would NOT be sleeping with a cadet under his command. They drum you out of the service for that kind of crap. And it's said before. Nobody promotes a raw cadet from O0 to O6 in a single commission and then hand them the flagship. That's exactly like taking a raw cadet off his midshipmen cruise and giving him command of..., well of the Enterprise (CVN 65). It ain't done. Admiral Nimitiz turned down Comsinpac just before WWII because he felt that he would be leapfrogging over officers with more experience and grade. The same would apply here. The story writing was just nonsensical

Big Government : Gay Tea Partiers Discuss Marriage And Bigotry

These guys are right. The government SHOULD be out of marriage, and leave it to contract law. The government should ONLY recognize civil unions, and leave the marriage portion to the churches. As it is now, the government enforces certain religions' definition of marriage and not others. One of the things I like about the Tea Party is that it focuses on smaller government, not social issues.

Big Government : Opponents of the National Popular Vote Have It Wrong

The current system keeps ALL states in play. The popular vote system is one that would result in candidates only focusing on the big states and ignoring fly-over country- something that the progressives have wanted for a long time. The system is NOT perfect, but it's better than popular vote. WE ARE NOT A DEMOCRACY, WE'RE A REPUBLIC. The best example of the popular vote or democracy I've ever heard is that of a lynch mob. You've got 49 people who want a hanging and one person who doesn't. Somebody's gonna swing.

Dr. Jasser, I like what you have to say. It's a start. However, I find the back of mind the same niggling question that j91140 raised. I too served in the US Navy. I too took the same oath as an officer and rose to the rank of LCDR so I respect your service. However, for the same reasons as explained by the aforementioned poster I watch with a skeptical eye. I will keep an eye on your organization with hopes of seeing true positive change. As my own faith tells me, truth is in the deeds, and a man's character is revealed by his actions. So far I've heard the words, now I would like to see the action.

Big Hollywood : Vampires in Film: From Malevolent Monsters to Moody, Male Models

Personally I loved Leslie Nielson in Dracula: Dead and Loving It! But Love at First Bite had some great lines: "Creatures of the Night, Shut up!" and of course the scene where he flips off the sun as it's rising is hilarious. I watched five minutes of From Dusk Til Dawn and then turned it off, discovering that there was nobody I could root for.

Hmmm, I'll admit that I'm guilty of humanizing the vampire in my own fiction, but I've at least kept away from the brooding vampire as a misunderstood hunter (This I blame on Poppy Z. Brite). At least my version of Vlad Tepes is still willing to do what is necessary to win, and to protect those things that he values. He may be something of a good guy in my stories, but he's still very capable of committing horrendous acts of violence and mayhem and refuses to apologize for it. But for the most part the writer is correct. To me one of the BEST seductive vampires who was still an evil bastard was Count Mittenhaus from Vampire Circus, an old Hammer film. He was the good looking male modle-type with a taste for young children and other men's wives.

The Incredibles is one of THE BEST comic book stories ever told. It's done well, and it hits some serious social issues without being preachy. The very libertarian theme of the right to be different is one that I myself explore in my Cadre 5 and Atlantis Unleashed Universes. I can't say enough good things about this movie, and only wish that they'd have done a series.

And I'm an American too. I'm also a veteran that served 12 years in the US Navy as an officer. I know a little bit about what I'm talking. If you were in the situation as these people, you'd be in violation of a a legal blockade and if you attacked them, you'd be in the wrong. Secondly it wouldn't be YOUR ship. You seem to forget that these people went in there TO PICK A FIGHT. That idea seems lost on you. As for my manhood. Is that the best you can do? I have stood on the line to defend America from all enemies both foreign and domestic. Can you say the same? I'm not the traitor. If an American goes overseas and commits a crime, I have no problem with them facing the consequences of their actions. That doesn't make me a traitor, that makes me a realist. I happen to live and work overseas right now. If I break the law, I should get in trouble. Finally, the idiot you are describing as an American was taken out of America when he was two and raised in Turkey. Somehow I don't really see that as being an American except by accident of birth. Again, all you can do is call names. You haven't dealt with facts.

The ship was a cruise ship. I don't know of any government who owns a cruise ship: From a Malaysian Newspaper (A heavily Muslim country) WHERE WAS THE SHIP HEADING, WHY WAS IT STOPPED? The cruise ship Mavi Marmara headed a six vessel flotilla taking 10,000 tonnes of aid to the Gaza Strip. The territory has been blockaded by Israel since Hamas, which does not recognise the Jewish state, took over the territory in 2007. Was the boarding legal? From the same newspaper: WAS THE INTERCEPTION, IN INTERNATIONAL WATERS, LEGAL? The Israeli navy said the flotilla was intercepted 120 km (75 miles) west of Israel. The Turkish captain of one of the vessels said they were 68 miles outside Israeli territorial waters. Under the law of blockade, a nation has the right to intercept a vessel in international waters so long as it is deemed to be bound for a “belligerent” territory, legal experts say. WHAT HAPPENED WHEN ISRAELI MARINES BOARDED THE VESSELS? Most of the violence was confined to the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara, but widely diverging accounts about how the violence unfolded have emerged as members of the flotilla returned home, following their release by Israel. Video footage showed marines being set upon by activists on the vessel who beat them with clubs as they rappelled onto its top deck. One commando is seen firing a paint gun — a non-lethal weapon Israel said members of the force carried — at one attacker. In another, one of the marines fires a pistol, gripping the weapon with two hands. The footage, provided by the Israeli military, does not show any of the activists being hit by bullets. Here's the link: http://my-m-1.themalaysianinsider.com/world/artic... Looks like your argument is falling apart around your ears junior.

Big Government : Middle East Crisis: Always Side with the Civilized Man

Charles Krauthammer put it best: "But as Leslie Gelb, former president of the Council on Foreign Relations, writes, the blockade is not just perfectly rational, it is perfectly legal. Gaza under Hamas is a self-declared enemy of Israel — a declaration backed up by more than 4,000 rockets fired at Israeli civilian territory. Yet having pledged itself to unceasing bel-ligerency, Hamas claims victimhood when Israel imposes a blockade to prevent Hamas from arming itself with still more rockets. In World War II, with full international legality, the United States blockaded Germany and Japan. And during the October 1962 missile crisis, we blockaded ("quarantined") Cuba. Yet Israel is accused of international criminality for doing precisely what John Kennedy did: impose a naval blockade to prevent a hostile state from acquiring lethal weaponry. Oh, but weren't the Gaza-bound ships on a mission of humanitarian relief? No. Otherwise they would have accepted Israel's offer to bring their supplies to an Israeli port, be inspected for military materiel and have the rest trucked by Israel into Gaza — as every week 10,000 tons of food, medicine and other humanitarian supplies are sent by Israel to Gaza. Why was the offer refused? Because, as organizer Greta Berlin admitted, the flotilla was not about humanitarian relief but about breaking the blockade, i.e., ending Israel's inspection regime, which would mean unlimited shipping into Gaza and thus the unlimited arming of Hamas. Israel has already twice intercepted weapons-laden ships from Iran destined for Hezbollah and Gaza. What country would allow that?" As far as the Irish are concerned: Somehow I don't think the Israelis are worried about them. But they did stay neutral during WWII and flirted with Hitler for a while, so you never know. Still, I think the Israelis can afford not to have the Irish friendship. Hel's Banquet Table, it's not like all of Europe isn't a seething bed of anti-Semitism already.
