Oh, the waxing story D:

I read it when Mallory tweeted yesterday, and just the memory of some of the descriptions is making we squirm with visceral empathetic pain.

Also, as a UK Toastie, it's so messed up that the American healthcare system means a person's first thought when this happens isn't 'call 999 / take me to A&E'...

This is by no means 'for me' in terms of personal situation, but I loved it anyway. Such beautiful writing, and a deftness of touch weaving the poetry and thoughtful advice together - I wish my litcrit abilities extended in this direction.

A blue plaque petition is definitely in order!

PS I love your username - I sing that song to my partner every time we see a fox (there does not need to be snow).

My goodness, I love the choose-your-own-adventure, more of these please!

Also, the twitter accounts used are years and years old - how? why? what? This makes it about 100 times creepier!

Those are so bizarre and fascinating, seeing as none of them sound remotely like any of his other novel titles!

Oh friend break ups are hard. I quite regularly have very vivid dreams about my best friend that I met in the first year of university - we drifted apart in terms of interests and mutual friends but it became a proper 'break up' because we were also living together so it all came to a head in the weeks before our final exams.

It wasn't so very very heart breaking as I knew it was coming (though neither of us handled it in a very adult way), but she's the one person that isn't currently in my life at all that I think about a lot, and the dreams are so happy-sad. We shared so much, and it makes looking back at uni photos bittersweet as she's in almost every single one and we had so much fun together for a couple of years.

EDIT: Was going to come back to delete some of the many 'so's that crept into this, but idk they're all heartfelt!

This is brilliant. Even more brilliant is the fact that my university library does indeed have a copy of Studies out in Left Field. To the reading room!

There is a whole bit in The Water Babies that plays on exactly that, when the Professor declares "that apes had hippopotamus majors in their brains just as men have [and] If you have a hippopotamus major in your brain, you are no ape".

I'm even happier to find out that there's a whole wiki page on this debate around 'Great Hippocampus Question' (but it may well only be me that's pleased by these esoteric areas of C19): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Hippocampus_Qu...

Ha, The Wolf only makes me think of the one and only (very best) gladiator who lays claim to that name. http://www.gladiatorszone.co.uk/gladiators/male/w...
