You must be a super newb. Tell us where to make a donation if they accept them (I bet you have no idea what /dev/null is do you? And although jailbreak is great for many of us, it didn't really do anything for the sale of iphones. Most people don't jailbreak or even know what it is. Most are just phone users, and they do what is allowed. Oh, and what rights do you have? You have no rights when in private places. I can refuse to serve you in a restaurant if i don't like the way you look. The mods can ban you if they don't like your comments. When you finish your high school education and get some real world experience, come back and tell us if you still believe your own drivel.

I am glad you like your phone, but i never thought this was a great idea. We had phones with external antennas for years - they stuck out the top. But that wasn't pretty, so they got crammed inside. But if the antenna is inside, you can't cover it with a metal back or have other things in its way. So it gets moved back outside, but instead of sticking up, they wrap it around so it looks pretty, but now it is grabbed when in use. If we tried to use old cell phones with antennas sticking out by holding the antenna in our fist, we would probably have call issues.

Is it a 3G or 3GS? Do you want to use it on T-Mo? All the instructions here are for unlocking it on 4.0. If it is a 3GS downgrading won't help you.

New firmware always involves backup and restore. You should not lose anything, but it could happen. I would suggest RedSn0w above, but it won;t run on PPC. You need to wait for PPC version or find a Windows or OSX-x86 box.

If you upgrade to 4.0 you lose your jailbreak. So, until a new jailbreak is released, you will not be able to install Cydia and then unlock it. Unlock depends on jailbreak. Jailbreak is lost during factory firmware upgrade. This mantra has existed since the 1st iphone. So, if you upgrade to 4.0 you will lose your unlock. Until a 4.0 jailbreak is released.

If you have NOT upgraded to iTunes 9.2; then you can use Spirit to JB the described phone, install Cydia and Unlock with Ultrasn0w. You can't ruin a SIM card. You should leave the SIM card in - why would you want to remove it? Do you know why you want to unlock? you seem protective of your AT&T SIM card. If you are not using another carrier, then you don't need an unlock - presently.

Actually, the model number is not on the back of the 3G - maybe others. You need the original box, or be able to access the settings menu to find the model number.

There are plenty of Android phones that are not yet rooted. Since you don't like to wait or do the work yourself, make sure you buy a phone that HAS BEEN rooted already.
