Art of Business Intelligence : MDS or BIPLATFORM Schema Password Change Considerations

Tropical, Yes, the other places to check are any of the JDBC connections that are created via the WebLogic Server Admin Console. Open the WLS Admin Console and from the left menu Select Services &gt; Data Sources. You my need to Lock &amp; Edit to make the appropriate changes but each of the JDBC data source listed will need to be assessed in order to ensure that all connections for all OBIEE components are being made successfully.

Art of Business Intelligence : Configure OBI 11g for Essbase Metadata Import Integration OOTB

Jacob, It looks like in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 this is no longer an issue and the client that comes with it should be backwards compatible. I haven\\\'t tested it yet so I may do so for a future blog post. The guidance is of course just to upgrade your Essbase version to the at least 11.1.1.3 if not 11.1.2.

Doug, It may be a while before we get some video. Perhaps the collaborative atmosphere at Open World this year and a digital camera will allow for producing several ArtOfBI.com video podcasts and interviews. We\\\'ll see what happens.

Art of Business Intelligence : Oracle 11g RDBMS Password Expiration Default - Possible Impact on OBI 11g

rnm1978, I think this is just something we\\\'ll have to warn the infrastructure teams and DBAs about. It is not the end of the world but it could cause disruption if the password expiration was set by an organization\\\'s security policy to be something like a once a quarter expiration. I\\\'ll post another blog entry on how to update the MDS and BIPlatform schema password in OBI 11g in the next week or so. That will show the quick front-end way to fix this issue from an OBI Administrator point of view if and when the issue ever arises.

Art of Business Intelligence : Hyperion EPM Architecture Layouts & Guides

SRX, Seeing how Oracle is always changing things around and breaking links (ex: Oracle By Example, or my OTN articles), without providing historical reference, I have begun to err on the side of caution and take a few extra minutes to mirror a lot of Oracle items that I want to always have available when I need it. Thanks for keeping me on my toes though.

Art of Business Intelligence : Essbase Studio Tutorial by Example

Bees, The tutorial is not vetted fully for EPM 11.1.2 although it should still work theoretically. In previous replies someone noticed that with SQL Server there was a need to reduce the length of the column names for the product dimension table(s) that I have shown in the tutorial. Once they rebuilt the table and other logic with reduced column name sizes their issues went away. Its a bit of extra work on your end for the tutorial but give that a try.

Don, Take a look at bot the Essbase studio and Essbase log files. This may give you an indication to where your problem lies. Check your relational fact table to ensure that there is data in there. Also, make sure that you are pulling &quot; All&quot; data from your MS Excel query so that you are not filtering on any specific dimensional member(s).

Art of Business Intelligence : OBIEE Logging Security Restrictions and Levels

Jerry, You should be using security Groups to set the logging level for users. If you are using the Shared Services integration then you are most likely using the SS open LDAP authentication. Just create the groups in shared services and then again in the RPD. Set the logging level for those groups in the RPD and it should work for you.

Don, I would have to see part of your development efforts to troubleshoot your issue. I suspect since you are seeing #missing that you have not run the CALC on the cube and your data is not yet aggregated. Since you are able to pull up the cube in Excel and can see the #missing you clearly have built the cube successfully. Just run the CALC and I believe you should be good to go.

Art of Business Intelligence : Top 10 Reasons to Migrate Integration Services to Essbase Studio

Todd, There are some shortcomings to Essbase Studio. It is not perfected by any means but is still a great enterprise tool and definitely a better tool than EIS. I may actually take a look at putting together a best practice strategy for the migration in which you speak. You need to remember that a big push in Hyperion/Oracle 11x was for the usage of the Migration Utility, Life Cycle Management, and migrating &quot;artifacts&quot; such as Essbase Studio schemas via this one-stop system. This may be a solid reason why you don&#039;t see the interface in the Essbase Studio file menu. Start there first going through Shared Services to access Life-Cycle Management migration utility. I haven&#039;t tried it yet, but if I get it going, I&#039;ll do a write-up on it.

Art of Business Intelligence : Automatically Deploy Smart View Upgrade

Jerry, I completely agree with you that upgrades can be challenging. Administration of Hyperion tools vary from organization to organization. This can even be more of a challenge when relating to BI services as such a small percentage of employees use these tools even though those users have such a huge analytical impact on the company. I have no immediate solution to ease your pain. We often work with clients on developing an upgrade strategy specific to their infrastructure, standards, and bureaucracies. Just know that I feel your pain on this one. Cheers, Christian

Art of Business Intelligence : OBIEE and Google Maps Integration

Jason,<br /><br />In regards to your new issue, I believe that I described this symptom in my blog post.<br /><br />Basically, OBIEE is retarted here. If you scan through the HTML source that makes up the narrative page, it is not correctly developed to enable dynamic HTML such as the Google mapping, javascript, etc. to run. The Google mapping will never show up in the Display Results section (when the HTML checkbox is checked) because of this. To see your test results you need to hit the show in dashboard button or save the results and view in your report/dashboard.<br /><br />Sounds like you are good to go now.<br /><br />Cheers,<br />Christian
