Unless you are in Cook county, within 1,000 feet of a school, or on the grounds of a government building, you can carry legally in Illinois. The firearm has to be unloaded, and in a case. You may have the magazine filled and in the case with the firearm. The case can be as simple as a cardboard box, but the most practical is a specially designed 'Fanny pack'. If you don't want to take the time to read the law, ask your local law enforcement agent. If you want to be able to legally carry in all 50 states, spend 9 months training and become a part-time police officer like I did.

As a physician, if it unfortunately comes to that, I will be taking care of the either the police or national guard, so I would expect my perimeter to be tightly surrounded by enough firepower to ward off the crazys while we protect those that need protected. However, should it come to that, a 338 lapua with 100 rounds of hollow points will trade for a lot more food and water than would our newly worthless currency, stock certificates, or Fed Reserve notes. Just has I have 3 fire extinguishers it doesn't mean I expect to have a fire, plenty of life insurance even though I really don't plan on dieing, I felt it prudent to have plenty of pre-64 silver coins, silver rounds, full pantry, and plenty of other precious metals (copper and brass). You may be content to rely on the generosity of our government, others may feel free to rely on themselves to rebuild after Europe, and then the US, collapses financially and then socially. I pray that I am a nut, and that you and your sarcasm are correct.
