Ultimate MMA Video Blog : DREAM 16 Promo: Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Jason Mayhem Miller

I don't know what I just watched, but I think Sakuraba is confused that Jason Miller is more into Japanese quirkiness than he is. If there was a person born to compete in front of Japanese fans, it's Mayhem.

Ultimate MMA Video Blog : Tito Ortiz Talks UFC 121 Matt Hamill Bout

Because for all intents and purposes, Jon Jones dominated Hamill and won. He lost because of a downward elbow because the ref wasn't stopping, and Jon Jones kept changing up his GnP strikes hoping the ref would jump in and stop it. Hamill got the official win, but no one really considers that a loss for Jon.

Absolutely. If he's going to keep fighting strikers, he needs to work on boxing and checking leg kicks.

If he wants to keep fighting, and fans want to keep seeing him fight, let him. If there's no medical reason to stop, I don't see why he should stop competing if he isn't concerned about losing to nobodies. He's said on many occasions that he doesn't care about his legacy, so if he just wants to continue to compete, let him. It's not like he's talking about making a run at a title (that I'm aware of), but the worst thing an athlete can do is retire before they're ready, because they'll eat themselves up inside for the rest of their lives wondering how long they could have gone on for. I have no desire to watch Ken fight anymore, but if he wants to finish his career fighting tiny shows for chump change, then fine. It's just his own legacy he's killing, and at this point he's driving it into the ground pretty good.

Ultimate MMA Video Blog : Josh Barnett Talks UFC 116 Main Event

While I agree with you, and really don't like Josh Barnett all that much, I think he's going with the all other things being equal, what's the deciding factor. Apparently one inch. As long as Brock watches a lot of the Any Given Sunday Al Pacino speech going into the fight, he's going to exploit as much as possible.

My bad. I think I had originally meant to write something to the effect that for the same reason small joint manipulation is barred, which is why I separated it into two separate clauses. Who knows though, I am a dumbass, so it's just as possible that I don't know the difference between a wrist lock and a finger/toe lock. In any case, they're barred for the same reason--not enough time to tap out before your opponent can break the joint.

Ultimate MMA Video Blog : Jamie Varner vs Kamal Shalorus Video- WEC 49

Watched this one while sitting next to Jason MacDonald and Jamie Varner's family. His brother went ape shit when he got kicked in the nuts the third time, his mom crumpled when she noticed he had broken his hand, and were crazy-animated when it was announced a draw. Quote of the night would go to his mom when he got kicked in the nuts the second time, and she stood up and yelled at Shalorus, "Quit kicking my son in the balls, I want grand kids some day!" Jamie Varner has one of the greatest families in MMA. Awesome, awesome card.

I'm watching this PPV for the Pat Barry scuffle vs CroCop. I think it's hillarious that Pat doesn't want to do the public warm-up--you're in the lime-light now man, this is where the paycheque is earned. Best of luck to Pat and his team, it has all the trappings of a good striker's match.

Ultimate MMA Video Blog : Frank Mir May Move to Light Heavyweight

I wouldn't say he sucks, since he easily beat Kongo, and took out Nogueira is stellar fashion, I'd just say heavier, more athletic guys are now showing up in the HW division. Frank would still be awesome fighting guys his own weight, unfortunately he now has to face guys 30 pounds heavier. His experiment with adding 30 pounds failed, so now he's toying with dropping 20 to get into LHW. Interesting to see how that plays out, because he's stuck in the middle of a weight class, with no competitive edge to get back to the top of his division.

Ultimate MMA Video Blog : Frank Mir May Move to Light Heavyweight

Well, the huge jump from 205 to 260 is showing, with the old heavyweight guard now uncompetitive against guys who are naturally 30 pounds heavier than they are. All things being equal, which is a very fine line up at the top of that division, physics will win. It's not like he can just add muscle, like he did for his last fight either, since Mir's frame doesn't add natural non-muscle weight to his size when he gets closer to 260, so any added bulk will gas the fighter faster than it will Shane Carwin or Brock. The guys caught in between like Mir, Velasquez, Dos Santos, Nogueira, etc are going to have a tough time against highly skilled guys 30 pounds heavier. As more fighters come in naturally heavy, there's going to be a case develop for a 230lbs division. Not quite yet, since there's not enough elite talent in the upper category to flesh it out, but one day they're going to need it. Unfortunately, Frank Mir should be a 230 lbs fighter, but that means he has to fight guys 30 lbs heavier, and that makes a world of difference.

Ultimate MMA Video Blog : King Mo Playing EA Sports MMA

I agree. All ground and pound strikes didn't even look like they connected. The punches were landing a couple of inches from the guy's face and the guy was reacting like it was a WWE wrestling match. Not what I want out of a sports game that touts realism as a sell feature.

Ultimate MMA Video Blog : James Toney Says He is Going to Choke Randy Couture Out

Holy hell he sounds punch drunk or just drunk. Either way, he really doesn't look fit to fight physically either. What boxers need to understand is that it's not a boxing vs MMA argument. Boxing is a part of MMA training, so hypothetically there should be very competent boxers that also train in other MMA disciplines. The argument isn't about which fighting style is best, since MMA includes boxing technique, but the argument is about business. Is it better to have a sport that specializes in one martial art (boxing), or one that has no specialization (MMA). Boxing vs MMA is ridiculous, since it's not about the fighters, it's about a business model popularity contest.
