Big Journalism : Correcting the Progressive Spin on My Defense of the Marines

Conservatives are always holding themselves up as moral exemplars and castigating liberals for allegedly lacking core principles. So isn't it interesting that liberals can readily recognize what is evident to any normal person with sense of decency and common sense ---the Marines were wrong to do what they did? Rather than recognizing that and responding accordingly, Loesch made some crude comments that she insists on defending rather than doing what adults with a moral center do -- admit a mistake and apologize for it. Fortunately for her, she's running a website where most of her readers are too dense and too much a part of an extremist political cult to recognize that this is anything other than a dispute between "evil" liberals and "persecuted" conservatives.

Given Breitbart's record, is it really any wonder why media with normal journalistic standards are waiting for additional verification before running with this story?

"That's why the lefties falsely accuse us of hate, racism, extremism, etc. All they have left is lies." They could also note a penchant for denial, a lack of movement self-awareness, and a level of gullibility that is nothing short of amazing.

This guy should have long since been persona non grata with any news organization that holds to normal standards of integrity. He's a fringe figure with a sorry track record of involvement in dirty tricks and deceptive editing. End of story. ABC should have known better.

Big Government : In Just 2 Days, Jerry Brown Proved He Is Not Up to The Job

There is an old adage that says, "Some people make things happen, some watch things happen, and some ask, 'What happened?'" Many conservatives have a hard time with paradigm shifts. They can't understand the changing nature of the world around them, they fear its implications, they make up delusional narratives to explain it, and they ridicule the people who try to get in front of it and channel it in positive directions. Take, for example, the energy policies put forward by Jimmy Carter as President and Jerry Brown as California governor. Both of them - and particularly Brown - were ahead of the curve. They understood that the inevitable direction of American energy policy was away from over-reliance on oil and toward more efficiency and renewables. If the nation had listened to them, we'd be in far better shape. I worked briefly in the California Governor's Office, and if someone then had predicted that 30 years hence there would still be people who didn't "get" the benefits of a sustainable energy policy, I wouldn't have believed it. I have since come to understand that there is always a core residue of Americans - perhaps 20 percent - who either too mentally rigid, too stupid, or too in bed with entrenched interests to help move the ball forward on energy. That's not to say that every idea liberals come up with is realistic or positive. Far from it. And that's why in the past, thoughtful conservatives were valuable to the American political process. They asked questions, helped to focus the discussion, and helped to assure that the adjustments needed in a changing world were undertaken prudently rather than recklessly. But that process has broken down. What used to be considered delusional fringe conservatism has become the province of high-paid radio talkers, a major cable channel , and websites like this one. I suspect there will soon be a sorting out as more Americans figure out whose policies inevitably lead to financial and environmental disasters, and push the conservative extremists back to the fringe where they belong. It can't happen soon enough.
