So now this family after being publicly humiliated since no drugs were found, obviously, will also be evicted from the home they are renting due to the Citys Chap 29 ordinance.

Well the headline does say "Man arrested" in this case implying that the CRPD has actually done something to justify their jobs. Glad to see someone point out the fact that this person was defending his person and property. This is an example of the victims being persecuted in Cedar Rapids. This will be an increasing trend with the passage of the new Chap 29 ordinance, so everyone will have to get used to it.

GazetteOnline.com : Liberal culture will make all of us poor

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promisng the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence; from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy ; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back to bondage." unknown author Where do you think our country is within this cycle?

GazetteOnline.com : Cameras fair; are streets safer?

Funny, I remember hearing that specific intersections were targeted due to a high number of crashes implying a known accident rate for each intersection. But for some reason they only answer you get when you ask about the stats of any given targeted intersection is "city wide accidents /crashes have been reduced by 12%" implying that they do NOT know the accident rates, NOW or PRIOR to installing their spy cams. Obviously these SPY CAMS are just a Gov. cash grab speerheaded by Chief Graham who seems to very persistant in legislating through City Council the duties of the CRPD onto the backs of others. That is the Spy Cams and also Chapter 29! So when we vote out the current City Council, we need to make sure the new Council will fire this bum and send him back to the rock he crawled out from under.

Wow! I am just amazed at the dumb m*sses commenting here! Can there be so many who are so eager to give or take away someone else's rights to property with out so much as a thought about their own rights being diminished! Property rights are one of the things that set us apart from the rest of the world! As AMERICANS we have the full bundle of rights to property unlike most other countries where the land is owned by the public. Stop allowing what are inevitably your rights to be taken or given away one little piece at a time! Come on people wake up!!!!

Really? We are supposed to live in a free society! Who are you whether you are a neighbor or the City to say that you get to choose who lives next door when you do not OWN the PROPERTY next door? That's called property rights. There are laws already in place to deal with bad neighbors if they are renters or owners. The City just did not enforce them evenly which will be the same with this new law. Remember that as the landlords' property rights are reduced yours as an owner will be that much easier for the City to reduce also.

It's one thing to give guidelines on what needs to be in ones lease agreement, which is a private party contract, but this is literally dictating that agreement. The City is in violation of State Law that prohibits the City from intervening in civil relationships "ie private party contracts" yet holds the exact perspective of a criminal : "it's not illegal so long as I don't get caught or you can't prove I did it". If CR wants to reduce crime they need to review the local Judicial System and ask why so many Judges just let those who are arrested out the next day. There needs to be more arrests with PROSECUTION TO CONVICTION. It's not the Landlords responsibility to police the neighborhoods.

You should be ashamed of your self! The direction you take is nothing short of voluntarily giving away not only our liberties, but those of your children and grandchildren for a what you perceive to be some higher level of security. Think about what you might tell your grand children and great grand children if they were to ask you why you gave away thier liberties and chose to let the Gov mandate safety and other decisions for them.

GazetteOnline.com : Officers monitoring traffic cameras a waste

A shining example of this is the passage of the Chapter 29 code requiring landlords to be licensed, requiring them to accept a mandated 3rd party Gov contract into what is typically a private party contract, and then holding them responsible for the actions of thier tenants at, or up to1000 feet away from the borders of the property they own. What will it take for people to realize the Liberties they sacrifice for themselves and thier children every time they allow Gov intrusion and intervention on the basis of perceived security?

No different than some one speeding. PERIOD! Where are those Camera supportors with their "break the law = fine you or hold you accountable" speeches?
I think you are RIGHT! With the thought that you are a potential lawbreaker there should be one at you curb (city right of way) aimed into your private property.
