"Windows Mobile Classic" still has a few years left in it. There are still new phones being introduced, and it looks like it's going to continue to be a good choice for emerging markets and enterprise (vs. Windows Phone 7, which is primarily a consumer play in the short-term).

MP3 is obviously not an obsolete format. (1) It's in mainstream use (99%+ of digital music not sold by Apple is sold as MP3 files, 99%+ of audio podcasts are MP3 files), (2) it does a great job at what it was designed to do, and (3) it's been actively updated over the years to support modern concepts like Unicode metadata.

AVI is obsolete because (1) it's not in mainstream use (people who don't download torrents will never see an AVI file), (2) it doesn't support now-basic codec concepts (like B-frames) or content concepts (metadata, chapters, subtitles) except via hacks that aren't widely supported, and (3) it's been dead in the eyes of Microsoft, its creator, since the last century.

If you do ever run into an AVI file, it'll be designed for PC playback in any case. So you'll still want to run in through a transcoder (or use Orb to play it from your home PC, which will automatically transcode it as necessary) to convert it to a modern file format at a mobile-friendly frame size and bitrate.

"...so I thought I would mention it."

I'm glad you did. We'll add direct links to DI.fm as well.

"Keep up the great work. Kinoma Play is amazing."

Thanks for the kind words, and for being a customer!

I can do both. Would that be useful?

Thank you for letting us know about this! Please try it again after the next Kinoma Play update.

Every update includes fixes, but if they're not described in the announcement then they probably fix edge cases that only affect a handful of customers. If Kinoma Play's working great for you and you don't personally find the new apps interesting, you're free to not-update. (OTOH, it takes less than a minute for Kinoma Play to update itself.)

To use the Google Reader app, you'll open Google Reader itself (not News). If the Google Reader app isn't on one of your Home screens, you can always find all applications in Apps.

No. We offered a one-time Kinoma Play upgrade to registered owners of Kinoma Player 4 EX when Kinoma Play was introduced, but I'm afraid that offer has long since expired.

Based on customer response, I know you'll find Kinoma Play to be a bargain at $29.99. Alternatively, you can get Kinoma Play for free with the "Check Out With TrialPay" option. Also, we occasionally tweet discount coupons to people who follow us on Twitter (twitter.com/Kinoma, or text "follow Kinoma" to 40404.)
