KATU - Portland, OR : Can a four-day school week really work? | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | News

*report I type corrected. Fortunately I practice what I preach and can eat my own words. Thank god I'm not a school bus driver that only cares about their own salary and not "on the other hand" the state of the school district budget eh? FWIW repot is the action of smoking another bowl, pdxrex. Chaos

KATU - Portland, OR : Hit-and-run suspect collapses, dies after hospital release | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Local

So if I understand correctly: Felony hit and run plus Felony alluding of 10 mile, high-speed chase with only reason chase being ceased due to spike strips deployment = release from hospital/police custody less than 5,6,7 hours later. Not-uh; I don't think so, OSP. Dude should of been held in police custody until felony charges were arraigned in court, if not until felony trial. Given the facts reported there is no circumstance warranting the suspect from being released to his own recognizance.

KATU - Portland, OR : Heavyset man shimmies shirtless near school | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Local

The suspect was ... over 270 pounds with short brown hair, a red t-shirt and jeans. No crime was committed so why is the man considered a suspect? A red t-shirt... wait a minute... c'mon people was the guy "shirtless" of not??? Oh I see you meant he wasn't wearing a shirt right? Please use correct grammar, professional news reporters at KVAL. The man was apparently not wearing a shirt; not "shirtless" as you say per your own contradiction of stating he had a red t-shirt.

KATU - Portland, OR : Should cigarette machines be banned? Gov. Kulongoski says 'yes' | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | News

quackmire, What's best for AMERICANS, you, me, and everyone else is freedom of choice. In the past, before the non-smoking ban, you chose to support an establishment that allows smoking and "suffer for years with stinking butts" just as much as someone else chose to smoke there. If you feel it's not "best for you" then don't support the establishment, simple as that. By supporting regulations you are in effect compromising the freedom of choice given to you and all Americans that value individual rights. Can you honestly say with a straight face that sacrificing one's freedom of choice is "best for any American"?!? You have the right to choose not to support an establishment that allows smoking just as the owner of the establishment chooses to allow smoking. If no one wanted smoking and as a result did not offer their patronage then the owner would have no choice but to ban smoking in their establishment unless they chose to close their store because of lack of patronage. Now that the new ban is almost in effect we as Americans are in effect compromising our rights and freedom of "choice" DISCLAIMER: I am a non smoker with an unbiased opinion and do not support either side of the discussion but rather support the freedom of choice that is revered upon us as Americans.

Perhaps Mr. Jones should of taken a look outside or viewed one of the many KATU weather reports continuously airing reporting of slow traffic conditions due to weather and made accommodations accordingly... So if it weren't snowing and Mr. Jones was late for work he would of acted the same? I doubt it. Point is just because there is snow on the ground does not excuse illegal behavior. "Oh it's snowing I think I'll try to steal a car today" Sorry, Mr. Jones, no dice.

KATU - Portland, OR : Snow, ice causing trees to fall | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Local

Troutdale man nearly killed by falling branch "Nearly Killed" is an ill-disguised advertisement ploy to generate news article web hits in an effort for viewers to visit the article page, view advertisements and create revenue for the news station. The term "nearly killed" suggests life threatening injuries were sustained, which is untrue in this case. Mr. Trayhorn was not "nearly killed". A tree fell through his roof; he did not sustain any injuries whatsoever. life threatening or otherwise. KATU should of kept the original article title that was written at 6:18 PM instead of updating it with unneeded rhetorical hype. An article title like "tree falls through mans roof" may be acceptable in this case. When I see an article titled "nearly killed" I expect to read details of life threatening injuries, not something that could of resulted in life threatening injuries. KATU, please stop your advertisement luring with news article titles that are suggestive, hypothetical, and not directly specific to the article.

foomux, I highly doubt my post is stupider than the actions of the late Mr. Meyer. After all, I am still alive.
You know, it's probably not the smartest idea to go sledding down your driveway and out into the street, rural or otherwise. I might be able to understand an unsupervised 5 year old doing something like this but not a 60 year old cognizant man.

press release courtesy of the Lake Oswego Fire Department Ohhh... Thank goodness the Lake Oswego Fire Department was there to stand around and take photos of the incident for the news article. I just don't know what I'd do without those pics courtesy of my tax paying dollars! Hey Lake O Fire Dept, how's about setting the camera down and administering some first aid eh? If it were my kid I think I'd want you helping him with first aid instead of taking photos of life flight touching down to take my tyke to Emanuel Hospital for your press release. Maybe it's just me that feels that way... Shame.

So if someone is really sick with a mental illness you hope karma comes knocking at their door? Wouldn't you rather wish for professional help for the sick individual? And how do you feel about illnesses other than mental? If someone has cancer you'd wish karma comes knocking at their door too? Your logic is convoluted.

RE: skinart73 "Would you also condemn the victims if the thieves had broken into their hotel room and stolen everything?" No. Because the victims would be accompanied with their belongings and furthermore a locked hotel room with surveillance cameras in lobby, etc. is more secure than a vehicle in a dimly-lit parking lot overnight. I believe if Mr. Granzatto left the child in the vehicle overnight instead of the equipment required for the child to survive there might be a different tune in comments. To me leaving the equipment or leaving the child alone in the vehicle is one in the same and I render it as child endangerment either way.

Mr. Granzatto, You should NEVER leave valuables (or items that appear to be valuable) unattended in a vehicle, especially equipment that may be detrimental to your son's survival!!! Hotel and shopping parking lots are prime targets for car prowlers, particularly during the holiday season, and leaving valuables in your vehicle is just asking for them to be stolen. I have this advice for you since I am familiar with this situation and as such am careful of the judgement I possess. If I were to do something I'd suggest setting up a donation fund with a local bank where individuals could donate funds to replace the equipment that is missing since it's doubtful the suspects will return the equipment to the hotel they stole it from so as to avoid prosecution.

prwhite55, You may be confused as to what freedom of speech means. KATU, like any other private entity, reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for whatever reason. It is KATU's choice to allow and disallow comments on their website it's not something that is bound by the constitution. Not like KATU was forced to provide commenting on their site because the Attorney General said it was required under the first amendment. If that were the case then KATU would not be allowed to delete certain posts they find offensive since the deleted posts would have been protected under the first amendment. With regard to commenting on KATU's site you are bound by the terms of service agreement for the website.
