Have you read Naomi Klein's "Shock Doctrine"? She drew the same Parallels about Chile and America long before our present crisis.

Klein was on Rachel Maddow last night. Klein said that the United States money shouldn't be bailing out the banks, but instead should be put more money into much bigger stimulus packages and social programs like funding help for AIDS in Africa. I doubt Klein's ideas are too popular around here. LOL However, it is interesting that the bank bailouts are being attacked by both the left and the right.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Sean Hannity had a segment on Obama's cheeseburger last night. It seems that it is a news that Obama ordered spicy mustard on his burger instead of ketchup. Hannity's premise seemed to be that spicy mustard is elitist becase it is sometimes called "dijon" and there once was a commercial for a brand of spicy mustard featuring a guy in a limousine.

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. If a bunch of kids start building a fort in the backyard, rules will develop for the play and there will be leaders. That is how human beings operate.

While Aspade and I agree about rules and leaders generally, I am sure that when it got down to specifics about what rules society should have and who the leaders will be, we would profoundly disagree.

Aspade makes judgements based on what was said, not who said it. That is a good way to do things because there are going to be those broken clock moments.

Welcome to the club. The press and the administration in power marginalized and mocked the anti-war, environmental and anti-world bank protests during the Bush years. Protesting is not going to create an immediate effect on policymakers no matter what you are protesting. Change happen slowly.

Why are you ashamed of your country?

I am proud of my country. I have always been proud of my country, even when I haven't been proud of our President.

I will return the favor by agreeing with you. The only "Republican" who captured the imagination and enthusiam of the younger vote was Ron Paul. As a liberal, I would LOVE to see the conservative movement embrace social conservatives like Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee. Their base is declining. It is the libertarian side of the conservative movement that is rsing and could become a real threat to progressives.

BTW, my absolute favorite Republican of all time was Barry Goldwater, not because I often agreed with him, but because he understood what was important in America.

I don't think Obama really wants to run banks and auto companies. Sure, he wants the government to regulate them substantially, but I don't think he wants to run them. To use a term Obama uses a lot, it is a distraction from stuff he does want the government to run like health care.

Obama took over at a time when the economy was a mess and Bush had already gambled on government intervention as a solution. Obama doubled down because that is what his experts told him to do. it may be a mistake, but if it is I don't think he made it because Obama has been a secret socialist all these years just dying to have the government run major industries. There is no evidence of that at all. If Obama would have taken office in different circumstances, he would not be pushing for the government to take controlling interests in major industries. The Democratic pary is about social programs and regulation, they are not about running industries.

Is a bathroom stall considered a public place? I guess in the party of Larry Craig it might be. I consider all activity that occurs in a bathroom stall to be a private matter.

The thing about conservatives is that they don't want the government to tell them what to do in regard to their guns and such, but they think it is okay to tell other people what to do. How is it hurting anyone to speak anotther langauge in a bathroom stall? If it is not hurting anyone, why would a true conservative have a problem with it. I thought you all were all were against the "nanny" state who dictates how other people should live their lives.

One more thing, every immigrant that some boorish rightwinger insults is a future vote for the left. One of the major reason that Obama won is that he got the lionsshare of the Latino vote. Thank you very much rightwingers for every mean commentany of you every said about Mexicans. Keep trashing the Mexicans and other immigrants and the left will keep on winning elections.

Interesting. You are fortunate that your personal values match societies values. That wouldn't be true for everyone. Some people don't beleive in the golden rule, they believe in the survivial of the fittest, or the world owes them a living or whatever. If everyone followed their own conscience all the time we would have choas, because nobody would know what rules other people were going by. That is why we have laws to set standards for the important stuff. I will concede, even as a bleeding heart liberal, that America has way too many laws dictating too much stuff. However, the alternative of having no laws at all and have everyone follow their conscience would be a total mess.

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."
