When he became a citizen of Indonesia he would have automatically denounced his citizenship to the USA, since USA does not offer dual citizenship. If they have to stop and translate everything, things get done much more slowly. Let's even say that this doesn't slow it down, so they put these kids in special education classes to help them learn english or to help them learn without slowing them down. Our lovely government has been dishing out tax breaks to foreign auto manufacturers for quite some time and has not been charging them any extra for making them outside the country and not keeping manufacturing standards up with ours. Our government has held our manufacturer's to a much higher standard with regards to pay to workers, clean air restrictions, etc. but has not made foreign manufacturer's pay higher taxes when they made them overseas and gunked up the air and paid people squat for wages to make these cars. Pretty easy to get more research money when you sell a car that cost you less to make for slightly less in the US, versus the big 3 getting charged with fees for not complying with rising regulations that they can't afford to meet. I also believe in the "When in Rome...." sentiment, but with some differences. If you in a tourist area, language is completely lost and you need to learn to deal with that. Second, I have no problem with Mexican people teaching/speaking Spanish with each other. What I do have a problem with is when they expect me to know it just because I need to communicate with them. If we were in Mexico City fine, but in Idaho? Long ways from the border my friend. And I also have a problem with people using it as a screen. Being a farm boy, I had the opportunity to work alongside many Mexican people. Many times when you started working with a new group, they would pretend not to know any English, so it made it easier to do something yourself rather than spend the time asking them to help or to do their part of the task. However it was very apparent that they knew English when you finally got mad enough and yelled at them, and then they suddenly know what you are talking about and what you have been talking about all along.
