It is very worthwhile. There have been times we've missed the extra income, of course, but we have never regretted the decision.

Oh we've addressed that. Every week, we beat her up and lock her in the bathroom until she gives back her allowance, so it's just like being in school.

Don't confuse socialization with being sociable.

It's times like these that I can't help feeling a little smug that we homeschool.

As a die-hard Capitalist (and cat fancier), I commend the Rowan County Shelter for making a buck by selling dead cats, rather than just throwing them in a dumpster like PETA does. Maybe if they sell enough, they'll be able to keep longer hours.

20-30 percent of the world's plant...species will be at increased risk of extinction by 2050

How can something that breathes CO2 be threatened by a rise in CO2 levels? Shouldn't we be encouraging "Climate Change" in order to recoup the staggering losses in the Amazon Rainforest the environmentalists were kvetching about twenty years ago?

I hope the county gets some sort of guarantees in exchange for those incentives. Otherwise, it could be Dell all over again.

to write a piece of prose that seems like something out of Rick Santorum's nightmares is a gross misuse of our First Amendment rights

Actually, that is the very reason for the First Amendment. An added bonus is that by allowing stupidity to appear in public, we can identify the carriers much more rapidly than if they were forced to hide their opinions.

She also said the House was now considering adding to its health care bill a $6.7 billion-a-year fee on insurance companies that is part of the Senate Finance package.

Hard for the private insurers to compete with a public option when the same folks that oversee the public option can fine the private insurers.

"There are some things we'd like to see happen to the insurance companies that they might not like," Pelosi said.

Afterwards, the Speaker cackled maliciously before setting the flying monkeys loose.

She said that if people are going to be required to purchase health insurance - as all the health bills on Capitol Hill contemplate - they need to have access to the cheaper rates government insurance could offer.

You know what would save them even more money? NOT mandating that they purchase insurance.

Nothing more than a power grab.

Thank goodness he wasn't playing a video game; he would have been killed!

Dude...you're getting a pink slip.
