You're probably right. I'd like to give myself a thumb's down but the system won't let me so I'll give you a thumb's up. I just posed that as one of many possible ideas thinking maybe writing a letter would at least be cathartic and help El Pato clarify his own thoughts. But I suppose it's overly idealistic thinking the dinosaurs in the NRA would care what a critic thinks. Heck, I don't even know that El Pato IS a critic. Someone please give me a thumb's down!
Dear El Pato, you don't need Chive Charities to take action. You don't need the Cult of the Chive to define how to proceed. While your desire to serve is noble, please don't wait for someone else to tell you what to do. Here are some ideas: Write to you congressman, write to the NRA, spread a little love in your local corner of the world, feed the homeless, etc. Best wishes to everyone and remember to carry on!
So we're criticizing people who may be seeking our approval now? Does that mean we should take the piss out of every single "Chivette" who submits a photo of herself? They're seeking our approval too, and they're certainly worst narcisists than Tom here who actually spent A LOT of money to help some kids out. Shall we say "Fuck off" to all the females who send pictures of themselves too?
This is what I've noticed about the Chive community, and there are exceptions of course... You are a bunch of hypocrites who are not as noble as you think you are. You get boners for two girls who are being sexually suggestive with each other yet you condemn gay men. I thought Chivers were supposed to be cool and keeping calm, not a bunch of judgmental insects. Two guys are happy and "chiving on" here. Awesome for them!
The Chive community in general regularly self-congratulates itself for its good deeds and noble spirit. Bunch of narcisists. But in this case, who cares? Someone gave a lot of their resources to help less-fortunate children and that's what matters.
Just wait and watch the bandwagon response when John does post. That's all I'm saying. Just wait. This is no comment on the murder of innocent children or heroic adults who should all be praised and honored. People, you don't need a man named John Resig to tell you how to help or how to feel. Do something now. Write to your congressman now. Open your checkbook now. Support your NRA chapter now or melt all your guns now. Do something, anything, now. I am certainly a jackass, as you say, for many, many reasons. But I implore all of you to not get overly caught up in the Cult of the Chive, a humorous and sometimes inspiring website run by a group of cool nerds.
I predict very soon John will tell us all how to feel about the Newtown massacre, or more accurately, the "Chivers" will get caught up in bandwagon ideology inspired by John's forthcoming post and call to action, relying on him to define their thoughts and how to proceed.

To those of you who never tried In-N-Out, it's good but over-rated. Their fries are like sticks of cardboard and their shakes are excellent.
