Picky, picky----but yes, the Renaissance dates from the mid-14th Century. I "do" medieval and late medieval up to about 1600. Elizabeth (and Henry VIII) are of particular interest to me.

Not sure I understand; is that meant sarcastically or seriously? I liked Blanchett as E, but not the movie. The ambience/mood/attitude of the HBO series was satisfying (I've done a LOT of reading on the Tudor era and am a medieval re-creationist). None of these are really historically correct (some more than others), same as with most period pieces (don't even get me started on "Braveheart".....).

Elizabeth most probably remained a virgin her entire life (Alison Weir's biography is good, as is David Starkey's analysis on her struggle for the throne). I second the recommendation for "Elizabeth R". Also, HBO's "Elizabeth I" with Helen Mirren is not bad, though it also suffers from historic inaccuracies (for example, Robert Dudley did not die in E's presence as shown).

I always wondered at the end of "Road to Perdition": How come Tom Hanks is shot in the back, we see blood in the front meaning (obviously) the bullet went through, and yet the picture window in front of him is undamaged. That's some tough glass, huh?

As I have often said, if I am told I have only 2 hours to live start running "American Beauty"---it will seem like a lifetime. A Hollywood movie that exposes the seeded underside of suburbia, complete with all the lefty stereotypes: A latent homosexual and abusive military father, the dope dealer who is the most sympathetic character in the movie, the middle-aged-crisis father, the over-achieving neglecting her family mother---BORING!!!
