Caracas Chronicles : The three-legged stool

Hey Kep, Had you seen this yet? Venezuela's science and technology minister has resigned after his brother became embroiled in a corruption scandal involving several local banks. Jesse Chacon's brother Arne, who is the president of Banco Real, was arrested as part of an investigation into banking irregularities. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8399268.stm

I really do like the idea, though in the current state of affairs I think that around 80% of option B would end up in the hands of plastic surgeons for new noses and boobs.

If you put 10.507778,-66.116528 into google maps that's Freddy Bernal's beach property, or at least it was in Semana Santa 2008 when I was swimming in that pool, unless he's sold it and has a better one now. Many of my extended in-law family work for the alcaldia Libertador. Not much but it's a start. I'd love to see where what the houses are like that the Chavez family are living in in Barinas.

Oh well, I'm sure next time you'll probably get some 'violence is acceptable for those I don't agree with' rhetoric. I'm a little cut that I'm not allowed to discuss Chavez's best international friends and their countries failures to compare to the failed mess here, but it's perfectly OK to bring up Chavez's enemies in defense of any criticism made to the big man and his cronies say or do even if it's at ends with anything they've said or done previously. Oh well, that's socialism for you, one set of rules for the majority and whatever they damn well please for themselves.

Caracas Chronicles : The Collected Wit and Wisdom of Nelson Merentes

No problem whatsoever! Turn on El Ocho this morning and all they want to talk about is Obama's delays in closing Guantanamo. That should keep them busy for a day or two, then I suppose its back to Uribe. It must be absolutely awesome to not be accountable for absolutely anything that's your job to take care of. So the moral of the story is that in Venezuela numbers now do in fact lie!

If war does break out, who does Chavez have on his side? Do you think his group of friends in Gaddafi, Mugabe, Castro, Ahmadinejad, Correa, Morales et al. would truly come to help him out? I'm leaving Lula out on purpose because he's actually got some real work to take care of with the Olympics and World Cup coming up.

I don't live in Galipan yet, but that would be nice. I'm pretty sure noone is allowed to buy land up there anymore, unless of course you have some serious cash and connections. At least I'd be able to get away from the car alarms and horns for a while if I was on the La Guaira side. Last time I went camping in the Avila we could still hear the alarms and honking and reggeton. This NED fund stuff is starting to sound attractive...

The lack of "not jailing inefficient funcionarios and ministers who have obviously not done their jobs for the Venezuelan people " is a very important point. I doubt anyone would disagree on that and I am being sincere. I can't see it happening but it would be great if some work was done towards achieving that goal. Lets roll some heads!

Caracas Chronicles : The Universal Yawn

Thanks for getting back to me. My favourite part was shit for brains! That was a nice touch. To begin, you obviously know much less about Caracas than you think if San Jose del Avila is enough away from Caracas reality to write the BS I do. When was the last time you visited the church at San Jose or went to Hospital Vargas? You seem to think that those living in calle El Retiro are living in a cornucopia of running water with all the electricity we can suck up, which is free of garbage and tiroteos and crackheads and corrupt lazy cops. So let's stick to Venezuela. Good point. So you'll stop bringing up the USA everytime someone here criticises the government's actions here, great! The government here is failing because they tell us that the country is full of oil and gas, but it seems that even after having been in control of all this there still seems to be a looming energy crisis. You mentioned key industries such as electricity, water, garbage collection in Europe being controlled by governments in the 1980s. Would you like to mention how key industries such as electricity, water, garbage collection being controlled by the government in present day Venezuela at all? Which part of the country are you living in where those 3 are being taken good care of? I've got no problem if they are controlling the key industries and maintaining them well but they aren't. Instead of focusing their efforts on what they were elected to do, they tell us what computer games we can play, what we should buy and how much we should spend, how long we can shower, what should be watched on TV, who we should hate both inside and outside the country, who deserves to be beat up, who we should mourn for, what marches we should go to and what colour you should wear (if you want to keep your minimum wage job) and which group of greedy assholes are allowed to get filthy rich by screwing the majority. You also mention the reason why Venezuela has the problems it does is because most people don't give a shit about anything but themselves. No shit Sherlock, this government seems to have no problem sending money and resources all over the world instead of looking after its own and maintaining its own country. It is kind of in the job description. The government here is failing because they give a shit about the safety and security of people living here. Caracas is now known as one of (if not the) murder capitals of the world. How many have been killed in the Distrito Capital this year alone and how does this compare with previous years? Hell just last week in the NeverNeverland of San Jose Far enough away from Caracas reality when an undocumented crackhead was threatening people in the street including 60-80 year old women, and we decided not to take to his head with piece of wood like what is endorsed by the president against pesky peaceful protesters, and we went to the local police modulo, the cops in there busy watching TV told us to go look for other cops in frickin Altagracia. Now that's looking out for the community! We all feel much safer that when we need some law enforcement they tell us to get lost. Perhaps I should just shoot anyone being inconvenient, does that work for you? The government is failing here because it has been in power for a long time and now doesn't give a shit about anything more than keeping power and living with full pockets. As for pathetic teenager mentality I think you need to look at yourself dude. Insults don't prove any point. Now I'm just fucking off OK, thanks for your time today, it's been de pinga pana. Enjoy your war broder. (A pathetic teenager mentality would be something like nacistes porque el coño de tu puta gringa madre te cagó degraciado.)

Hey Big Boy! I said failing for Venezuela, we've still got a little way to go before it's completely failed. But that seems to be your goal. Full government control of every facet of life. From where I ignorantly live in San Jose del Avila the government is winning the fail game with stunning efficiency. Surely what I see with my own two eyes only serves to illustrate just how deep my ignorance with with fanatical anti-chavismo.
