I think that is saying that the service may not interest a child much, or at all. I have had a LOT of experience with kids and I have found that the majority of them would not be able to sit through a sermon and learn from it. Kudos to the kids who can though. Also, I want to defend the Sunday School programs. Ideally Sunday School should not just be a placeholder baby-sitter that is all fluff and no content. As a Sunday School teacher, I put a lot of effort into making sure that Sunday School is a fun environment so that kids can look back on it and church in general with fondness AND finishing the lesson. I will often modify the lesson or game if I feel that it is impractical. Many teachers, mostly volunteers, put a lot of effort into Sunday School. It's not a cakewalk! If your church's Sunday School program seems lacking, I strongly encourage you to try to implement positive change or volunteer.
