There is a long standing concept in American law that states that there is no privacy in public places, and you should be under no illusion of privacy. Police could very legally follow you around all day watching what you do in public, however if they wanted to see into your home further than they could see through an open window, they'd need the courts decision. This applies to camera as well; it's perfectly fine to establish cameras in public places for law enforcement since there is no privacy or concept of privacy in those situations.
