I've encountered enough of them to understand how they work & flow, but the problem I have with them is that if you aren't familiar with the area, they can make you even more confused, especially in high traffic areas. I think they're best left to low traffic intersections where it's mostly local traffic and not a lot of destination choices. Can you imagine a roundabout on Alpine or 28th St.?

Charging a person because there's a streetlight in front of their home?!? Don't all the area residents benefit from it? I'm glad I don't live in GR. Talk about unfair taxes! The county guidelines requiring a gradual increase in depth doesn't account for the fact that anyone, especially the young children like in these cases, can drown in a bucket of water or a deep puddle. It's not the depth but the inability to get your face out of the water that causes the death. REQUIRE A FENCE! My condolences to the families. I cannot even imagine the pain.

And California is so "progressive" that they even have a list of things "known to the State of California to cause cancer." I can't believe with that "list" that the reporter even dared to say that no patients were harmed. Just breathing or eating in CA is harmful according to the "list" (yes, eating ~ the by-product on your dinner created by cooking the food is really on the list)

I was a sprinter & high jumper in high school. I have the utmost respect for distance runners. I hated running "over-distance" in practice (3-5 miles for sprinters). If you've never run longer than from the couch to the 'fridge, don't knock 'em. It's hard work but my 13 yr old son said the feeling of accomplishment is worth it (he's run a 5k race)

According to the newscast, his bike was locked up and the thief (apparently) broke the lock to steal it. It shouldn't matter if it's locked or not. I've taught my kids "If it's not yours, DON'T TOUCH IT." If people would only remember the Golden Rule, we wouldn't need locks and keys. Great to hear that he's getting a new bike. That kid has ambition to ride 8 miles to and from work for a job that likely doesn't pay big wages or benefits. We could all learn a lesson from him - money isn't everything and the satisfaction of a job well done can be more rewarding than a nice bonus or company car. WAY TO GO NICK!!!

***Somebody gave me a "thumbs down" for questioning the incessant stories on "DNA Found" but never telling us what it is??? I KNOW what DNA is, but some stories call it "eDNA" as if it's something different than your regular genetic blueprints. What's the difference, and what did they find? Eggs, sperm, scales, what??? So, whoever gave me the -1, could you please explain what this DNA they found is, because according to all the news reports, they haven't found any fish, just DNA but the news and/or government won't elaborate on what they've actually found.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. He's got some political gains to be made in Chicago & Illinois by keeping the locks open. He seemed to be faster at calling for Gitmo to close to protect some potential terrorists than closing the locks and protecting a multi-billion dollar economy of several states & provinces.

I didn't cast a verdict. If you re-read my comment, I stated that so many people are jumping to conclusions without the all the facts (and today, we've learned it was in fact a babysitter which makes my point). I never stated anything about WHO "the woman" was. I realize that the stories get amended often and people should realize that when it comes to news stories that they are in such a hurry to get "the scoop" that many times they don't bother to proof read or verify sources.

Wow. So many comments about the woman being the mother when the story says "Police have not yet specified the woman's relationship, if any, with the child." For all we know at this point, the woman is a neighbor who was helping out the mother. I've never forgotten my kids in a car, but it's plausible that if she is not used to having kids around, and the baby was sleeping, she may have forgotten she was watching it. We are, after all, creatures of habit. Before casting your verdict on her, wait for all the facts.

Hmmm, seems that you know everything about everybody. I feel SOOOO relieved to know that should the Lord ever be busy, I can just call on you for any answers I may need. The jumping to conclusions and calling for the firing of a driver when you clearly show you don't really know the entire story (even if you "witnessed" it or know the driver of either vehicle, you can't possibly know the ENTIRE situation) proves that while you may not have any tickets, you are not a responsible person. I hope true justice is served, whether they are at fault, or innocent. This mob-mentality is appalling.
