I also would like to give hekker a congrats. though there was the one bad punt i did see two where our special teams had enough time to get down to the receiver and level them as soon as they got the ball. He has done a great job in development.

Shock and awe is how I feel. I am in awe at the offense. It really shows what the future holds. Katz is the real deal. I am shocked that this is the fourth year that Banker has seen a spread offense and it still is apparent that he has no idea as to what to do. I am shocked that there is not a single defense in the country that can figure out how to stop a spread. Perhaps it will take one solid late hit on the QB when they keep the ball causing a career ending injury to make coaches second guess this type offense. A group of universities should go in together and offer a million dollar prize to the defensive coordinator that figures out how to stop the spread. Our defense is going to have a long season. Well done offense. Just get quiz involved more.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: More on Nichols

Cliff, I am not familiar with how NCAA scholarships work in fine detail, however I was wondering if it is possible for guys like Nichols to get help from a specific non profit if it was set up specifically to help non scholarship players with things like food and other non school related costs. Again I am not familiar with all the ins and outs of the NCAA regs so perhaps you might be able to shed a little light on this.

Central Oregonian : County revenue forecast looks bleak

What would you have the employers/government do? If the employers were to hire longtime locals they would have to pay more than what they are paying the new hires. It is just good business to do what they are doing. The government is doing exactly what the locals want them to do..... resist change. They are doing a fine job in that. I do not blame the government at all. This town is dieing and no one will realize that it will take drawing business to prineville (attracting outsiders as scary as that may be) to bring the economy around. The distribution center will not always be up on the hill. At some point economics will dictate them to move that facility to a coastal port like coos bay (which by the way is revamping their entire port to support new large importers). Lets not blame the local government. If you want someone to blame every long time resident should just look in the mirror. This town needs to change and become a new town or it will die. It is time for the longtime residents to step back and let some of us new comers bring good ideas to the table that have an outside perspective.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: A football playoff?

I would like to see a good playoff system. Everyone talks about how much they like to see the number one and number two team square off for the championship. I personally would like to see it so that a number 15 team has a shot at it. I draw ones attention to the superbowl when the Giant pulled a huge upset against the Pats. That superbowl had the highest ratings by the end of the game than any superbowl that has been played. I personally do not care about the national championship. I am sure that there are many fans outside the SEC and Big 12 that feel the same. A playoff system would bring a larger fan base and more money to the conferences. all of the other bowl games can still occur. The conference champs move on to the brackets and the other schools will pick up the other bowl games. It seems like everyone has a scenerio to pitch that would be better than the BCS. It will just time to put one into place.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Pac-10 woes

I am glad to see a pac 10 team win last night though it was far from a dominating performance by SC. I am a huge PAC 10 fan however i think that it is time to tear down the term "BCS Conference." The Mac clearly had better top three teams than the top three teams the pac 10 put up. I hated to see the Beavs lose however it was clear that BYU wanted it more. Same when you watch the Cal game. Utah wanted the win more. I think that it should just be conferences no BCS or Non BCS.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Vegas postgame

Cliff, Did you get a feeling prior to the game starting that the players had their heads on? I have replayed the first touchdown and Canfield just did not look excited like he normally does when a touchdown is made. He just walked off the field. Add the rogers fumble and the defense deciding that penalties were the way to move the ball for BYU it looks like they just were not in the game. This is just one person's opinion. Did vegas life get to the players?

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Bowls fall into place (updated)

Okay so how does Cal get the emerald bowl???? Here is what i am to understand the rankings to be... 1 - Oregon - Rose Bowl 2 - Arizona - Holiday Bowl 3 - Oregon State - Las Vegas (4th place bowl but Sun bowl won't take us) 4 - Stanford - Sun Bowl 5 - USC - Poinsettia bowl?????? ( a sixth place bowl) 6 - Cal - Emerald Bowl ?????? ( a fifth place bowl) Am I missing something? It is not that I am not enjoying the fact that USC is going to the lowest bowl game that the pac 10 goes to however if they deserve to go to a better bowl, shouldn't they be able to go? Or are is the Emerald bowl and fifth or sixth place team placing? thanks cliff

Cliff, After watching the Ducks last night I am feeling a little better about our defense taking Masoli down. Can you confirm at some point if the Beavers will be wearing home colors to the civil war? Congrats to the Beavers on an awesome season. From what I heard about Katz playing I have a feeling we will continue to have that Rose Bowl in our sights.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Cal press briefing (updated)

Cliff, Thanks for all the work you do in covering Beaver Football. I do have a question looking to the Civil War... Why don't the defensive coordinators assign one linebacker to solely pick up Masoli? If there was one person who's job was only to watch Masoli and get to him and let the rest of the defense do their job it might work. Every defense that i have watched against UofO runs a zone like defense and the ducks pick it apart. I bring this up because the way our defense is running I am concerned. Any thoughts? Also i heard a rumor that Riley is going to give up a timeout and wear home colors to the civil war because the ducks are going to dress in black. Can you confirm this?
