Israellycool : ‘Freaks Of BDS’ Trading Card Of The Day

Some people you just look at and can suppose would become amongst the first to be rounded up by the totalitarian regimes they pray for. I know that it isn't fair to judge, based upon appearances, but I do envision "her" running to my house, as the first or second Little Pig, trying to find afety with the people she does not understand.

Naw, I'd'a guessed that. To know Selma Hayek is to know why she would deonounce any decent person, or even Dame Edna. Hayek is as reflexively and outspokenly left wing as anybody in Hollywood, which helps her stay employed.

Big Government : Indoctrination Fridays: ‘Three Little Pigs’ Slaughtered by Leftists

Well, having seen the comments about altruism and/or charity, versus redistribution, I suppose it's a matter of perspective. My perspective was from the next day and the day after that. Where, then would the other two pigs go? I envision the third pig having to put them up, indefinitely until, exasperated, he boots them out. Then they go right back to their old pattern and build from straw and sticks. When people knowingly slack off in expectation of "charity", that becomes redistribution.

Actually, even without the perspective she offers, the fairy tale is fundamentally a leftist dream of redistribution. The two pigs that goofed off and built inferior homes moved in with the pig in the brick house, once theirs were blown down. I've read or heard somewhere that the version of the story we are familiar with has already been fundamentally altered from the original by the Brothers Grimm. Supposedly, in the original , the first two pigs are eaten by the wolf, but this lesson was eliminated from the translations crafted for 20th Century consumption.

Israellycool : The Problem With Obama's Speech

@ Mike, or others. This is something that bothers me, though I know it didn't originate from here: "When people refer to the "1967 lines" they're always talking about the post-war armistice lines. " What people? Who means this when that inadequate phrase is employed? Thanks.

Big Government : Identifying Federal Regulations that Impede Job Creation and Slow the Economy

Rep.McClintock, here's one for you to PLEASE consider: http://www.greencar.com/articles/can-convert-natu... There is an insane process in place that now prevents Americans from converting gasoline cars over to natural gas. It used to be a simple and cheap conversion, and still is, elsewhere in the world. We sit atop vast reserves of natural gas, but cannot run our vehicles on it, solely because of EPA (and CARB, in CA) regulation. Even licensed mechanics cannot convert vehicles for us, as the licensing and certification process amounts to over $200,000 for a single, specific, engine, from a single, specific model year. As such, what used to be a $200 conversion, now costs $12,000 to $20,000, per vehicle. The process is set up such that only government and big business can afford to convert vehicles, by converting fleets. EPA justifies their position because they consider conversions to be tampering with emmission control systems, even though natural gas burns far more cleanly than gasoline. If ever there were a costly and unnecessary regulation, this is the poster child!

Israellycool : Confused Individual of the Day

You wanna talk confused? I was at a kids soccer game this morning, here in my rural, southern, American hometown, at the YMCA.. That's YMCA, as in Young Men's Christian Association. It was the end of the season, so there was a party and awards celebration after the match, inside in "Classroom #1". And there was art from kids on the clasroom walls that included posters made about voting, along with flags made by kids. Including this one: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thu... What's terribly ironic is that kids in American schools get in BIG trouble for even Drawing an image of a weapon, such as a knife or gun. But a sword is just fine, apparently. At the ymCa.

Big Journalism : On Confusing Prejudice with Journalism

I have no use for the author of the editorial, but I believe two separate phrases are being conflated, here. Porch monkey is accurately defined, but the phrase "get back on the porch," or "stay on the porch" is a separate phrase that uses the word porch. It is used to describe someone that is inferior in whatever capacity is being discussed. The complete phrase is, "If you can't run with the big dogs, you need to stay on the porch." It has no racial context and is said by whites and blacks alike, to whites and blacks alike.

Big Journalism : Castro Admits Cuban Communism Doesn't Work -- Or Does He?

I would, personally, assert a caveat to that, though. Any Cuban exile, or descendant of a Cuban exile that ever registered as a Democrat, that ever actively empowered the Castro dictatorship by supporting leftists in America, would be precluded from any form of restitution. Not precluded by Americans, but precluded by those, in Cuba, that had to live that much longer under a murderous, dictatorial regime, due to their own personal actions. Or maybe that's just my opinion.

I was putting gas in my car the other day and a couple of guys in a minivan offered me the deal of a lifetime! For some crazy reason, TWO big screen TVs showed up on their jobsite, that morning, and they had to get rid of the extra one! What a deal! In my best judgement, they were both of Cuban extraction, which is sad. Maybe not true, but likely. However, they certainly don't remember, or care, that the Investment Opportunity Of A Lifetime in Cuba is a crime. The land and businesses were stolen from citizens that were, at best, robbed. Maybe they were shot. So, maybe France allows its citizens to buy into Cuban property from Castro and we don't. We should be better. France should recall that, but for the United States, we could have bought property in France, cheap, from Germans. No decent American should ever touch anything from the Castro regime of murderers and robbers. It's disgusting to even contemplate that America would ever treat Cuba as a trading partner, before the Cuban exiles have been allowed home and an opportunity to recover their own property.

Oh, things will be changing, alright. Here in the Tmpa area, an area partially founed by Cubans, long before 1959, we hear the talk of lifting the embrgo. And that's all we hear. That is a problem, my fellow Americans. I don't have a drop of Cuban blod in me, and I wasn't born until 1960, but I seem to be amongst a diminshing populace that knows, or remembers what has transpired. Today, we read or hear about how the American embago precludes Americans from taking advantage of he investment opportunities available once the emargo is lifted. Tampa is geographically even better positioned to reach Cuba with cruise ships, than Miami! Hurry, jump on board!

Big Journalism : Annals of Journalism Open Thread: Dan Rather

How soon we forget. It was not the "sheer luck" of the Kennedy assasination that elevated his status and lefty credentials, it was lying, made up news. When Rather shocked the American public by reporting that the school kids at Parkland Elmentary had cheered the announcement of Kennedy's death, he had done so in explicit defiance of his boss, whom had told Rather that that was a nonsense rumor with no basis in fact. Rather went with it, anyway, live and the rest is fake history! For an interesting look at this time period at CBS news, you really should read Charles Kuralt's wonderful autobiography, "A Life On The Road."

Big Peace : Yet Another Terror Jailbreak

I will watch. I will pay attention. It will take years to force Holder out of the Justice Department, in all liklihood, but even then, he must be watched. The scum that nominated him will lose power and probably all influence, after he leaves the White House, but not Holder. Holder will always be agitating and scheming, in the background. That's his style. He has struck two unanswered blows against your family and you must be running out of cheeks. Know that many others will watch his every move for the rest of his dismal life.

Big Government : Heritage Foundation Remembers the Gulf

From the "colleague" link in the original post: "Skimmers that discharge separated water containing less than 1% of oil residue are being met with bureaucracy." It's far more than that. Discharge of oil into the water is subject to a serious fine, per event. I have never seen a citation for where it comes from, but have repeatedly read that the standard of 15 parts per million is being applied. There is no such federal standard (here in Florida, we use 5 parts per million), but whatever. Using the 15 ppm standard, vessels cannot discharge water that is less than 99.9985 percent cleaned, an impossible standard for the equipment involved, especially in rolling seas. Please find out whom is telling operators down there that the standard is 15 ppm and where they are getting that number. Please find out whom, specifically, is threatening to enforce those standards and holding up the utilization of skimmers, regardless of which country is supplying them. Somebody is purposely blocking the use of anything except for crude blocking strategies (berms and booms) or soaking oil up with sponges (absorbant booms). That somebody has a name and a face and needs exposure.

By not undersanding the difference between toxic and hazardous, you are missing the difference between a gun in your own hand and a gun in an assailant's hand. Lautenberg wants to make it illegal for there to be anything you could foolishly eat (like the barrel of a gun in your own hand). And he will do this by scaring you into believing you are being force-fed something that will kill you.____Tell Lautenberg you know the difference between toxic and hazardous and tell him to bite your shorts.

Forget abolishing the EPA, just starve them. Cut their funding drastically, then cut it every year thereafter, to sharpen their (sometimes) useful focus.____Meanwhile, don't fight battles unarmed. ToSCA is Toxic Substances, stuff you have to eat, to harm you. Hazardous substances are a whole different animal and can harm you from a distance (and they are already strictly regulated). Stop using toxic and hazardous, as if they are interchangeable. Confusing the two allows scum like Lautenberg to have a greater impact. If he had to admit that all you had to do to achieve the aims of his policy is to keep your own baby from eating the dang toxic substance, well that wouldn't be scary enough to create new law now, would it?

Big Government : Manipulating Climate Change: Warming to RICO?

sarahb, please check that EPA link in my earlier post. Yes, it's a done deal. I once drafted a submission for Mike Flynn, on this issue, but things are moving along so fast that my material became dated before Mike could help me make it workable material. I'm a biologist, not a journalist. I'm trained to build to my point from a basis of facts, then get to the interesting part. Once (per the SCotUS) GHGs became regulated as dangerous gases, we got the Cap. Trade is the sweetener to allow the now-regulated industries to afford to attempt to comply. We don't need to wait for Congress to enact a Cap and Trade Bill; we have already sent the industries to be regulated the real bill, in dollars; they are now to be required to estimate, record, and report their GHG emissions. The Supreme Court has already allowed the GHGs to be regulated as dangerous. That's existing policy and law.

Lots of good people working at both of these agencies, but the time is past for trying to reform them or be reasonable with them. They must be sliced down to the bone, then be forced to find ways to make themselves self-supporting, by actually helping taxpayers. These are not agencies populated by persons that were unaware of the problems in the data and conclusions associated with the Climate Change nonsense. They are agencies populated by people that knew they were using spurious information to advance a cause. As such, those that may lose their employment in the event of serious cutbacks should be able to find employment in their natural homes, within environmental activist organizations. In my opinion.
