Here is rivals.com preseason rankings. They started with 120 and are now at 44. As you will note they haven't posted CU yet which means they feel they are AT LEAST top 50: http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID... Thanks for trolling

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Big 12 dishing out record $130 million to schools : Top Stories : Boulder Daily Camera

It is nice to see the Big 12 is dishing out $130 million, my question is how are they dishing it out. Is this for all sports? Is it based on television apperances? Is football> mens bball> womens bball > baseball > volleyball? A little more information on how this works would be nice. More money on the top line sounds good, but if CU gets a smaller percent of the new money this may put us further behind schools with larger revenue/endowment streams.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Helfrich leaving CU; Hawkins names Kiesau offensive coordinator : Top Stories : Boulder Daily Camer

He called the end around at the 2 yard line, which lost 4 yards to the six. It was on second down after we had gained 4 yards by running up the middle. aTm couldn't stop us from running up the middle and they new it. He finally learned in the NU game on 4th and 1 from the 4, and we ran up the middle and scored a TD. Helfrich always seemed to call the "cute" play instead of letting the players make a play. He wanted to win because of the "great" play call. I hope the spring game plays were more of what Kiesau has in store for the Buffs next year.

Cody was 6-7...we beat NU and lost the bowl game. We were close to being 9-4 if you remember. We were a Hugh Charles fumble away from having the lead & win over KU at home. The ISU game we should have won, and a bowl game were we almost came back and won. Improve the o-line, running game, and if Cody steps up from that level of play we can get to 9-4 or even 10-3

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : CU football season ticket renewals holding steady : Top Stories : Boulder Daily Camera

Morgantown will really set the tone for the season. The mountainers are replacing 4 of 5 o-linement, a star QB who was a leader for the team, and all 3 LBs. That being said the new QB looks to be more of a traditional passer, and a bit more acurate thrower. WV will be at home, and they still have Noel Devine, which on a stand alone basis could make life hell for the Buffs. I like our chances though. I upgraded my seats this year, and am looking forward to the games from a better vantage point. When October rolls around, it the Buffs are 4-1, and the Broncos are 1-4, there could be a bit more interest in the action in Boulder. Economically it makes more sense, the best seats at Folsom are $58, the worst seats at Mile High are $50.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Black over Gold in spring game : Top Stories : Boulder Daily Camera

On defense we saw a lot of positives as well. The D-line did better than initially expected. They really held their blocks, and Will Pericka was able to apply some pleasure. I was impressed with how well Will pushed into the back field, and drew double teams. Curtis Cunningham did not play on Saturday. The linebackers were all over the place on Saturday. Most of us felt going into the game they would be a strength in the fall, and if the spring game is any indication that will happen. They did a great job filling holes, avoiding blocks, and blitzing in a way that wasn’t obvious to the o-line (or me in the stands). We will also add Major to the mix in the fall, since he sat out the spring game. The secondary was good, Jimmy Smith will be great, and there will be a good number of CB’s once Perkins and Brown are better. It did seem the safeties played a little lower key than usual. I guess they wanted to keep their teammates health.

We were missing Tau, MTM, & Behrens, all three who have seen time at LG. The running backs all looked good. From Sumler hitting the hole hard and fast to Scott moving the pile 4 yards after a 3 yard carry the RB’s will be good & deep in the Fall. The TE’s played and blocked well, and when the Wallace & Deehan get more experience they will be true weapons in the pass game. The WR were the one place that needs help, but we all knew that. The two scholarship guys did well, and Scotty watched on the sideline. On Smiths long catch from Hansen you saw the two communicate at the line before the play, which was good to see.

Here are the real positives from the spring game. I have been to everyone under the Hawkins regime, and this was the best one so far. I am not referring to points or big plays; I am referring to player execution. I will start with the offense. This was the best the o-line has blocked. Their fundamentals were sound, the guards pulled well, and they were consistent. We have 3 months until fall camp to allow Givens to gain 10 lbs and more experience, Itilis to fully heal from the ACL tear (he is only at 9 months now), and Miller to heal completely and become a run blocking bull. Also, for the spring game the LG who started will probably be 3rd sting come Sept 5th.

No team "wins" in the spring. It doesn't happen in Florida, Ohio, Texas, or Oklahoma. All teams are able to do is lay a foundation for the fall. This is done by implementing strategy, improving technique, increasing strength and conditioning, and allowing for player development. As far as the scrimmages go, it is always a zero sum total at the end of the day. Good in one area means improvement is needed in another. Anyone watch the Georgia spring game on Saturday? I TIVOed it, and watched it in the afternoon. I don’t know how they are supposed to fair next year, but what I saw on the field at Folsom on Saturday was at least equal to what was televised from Georgia.

I think the difference between 6 wins in the season and possibley 10 wins will be based on our running game. If Speedy/Scott/Lockridge/Sumler are getting 65% of the plays, and we are averaging 4.0 yards per play, then the Buffs will have a successful season. Long drives that wear down defenses will be the key for the Buffs. I know everyone here remembers the OU game, and how the O & D lines look over at the end of the game. That is what we need to do to be successful.

I am not a Cody naysayer, but I If we are 6 practices & 1 scrimage into the spring, and Cody & Tyler are even, then I would actually give the upper hand to Tyler. In oreder for Tyler to over take Cody he has to go from below to equal to above. It is the natural progression. If Tyler has all the physical tools, and Cody has the knowledge, it will just take a time for Tyler to catch up. There are still 6 more practices and 2 scrimmages + all of summer and fall Camp for Tyler to improve. I thought Cody took a step back last year. He had happy feet in the pocket (which started during the FSU game), and never really looked like a kid who knows the play book. That being said, if Cody has a big turn around and is able to perform at a much higher level than his freshman year campaign I am all for Cody as the QB.
