The Wild Hunt : An Ethics Statement: How to Start

A couple of years back, my (soon to be ex) brother in law tried to bring the Pagan community together to fight child molestation within the community. Granted; his methods were a little crude, to say the least. He soon found himself as an outcast. Maybe this approach will achieve what his histrionics (& a certain public ritual) did not. Good luck to you Jason, I hope it works.

Makes me wonder, what if the West Memphis police had tried to educate themselves, instead of listening to fundie wingnuts? Maybe all police should take their ques from Albuquerque.

The Wild Hunt : About St. Patrick and the Serpents

From Wikipedia; "For most of Christianity's first thousand years, canonisations were done on the diocesan or regional level. Relatively soon after the death of people considered to be very holy people, the local Church affirmed that they could be liturgically celebrated as saints. As a result, St. Patrick has never been formally canonised by a Pope; nevertheless, various Christian churches declare that he is a Saint in Heaven (he is in the List of Saints). He is still widely venerated in Ireland and elsewhere today." So, technically, he isn't even a true Saint?

"They say that one of the early "St. Nicholas" characters was only a thinly disguised Poseidon." I've also heard that Thor was the original "Santa". lol

"Who do THEY know?! The best I seem to be able to find is clumsy and fully clothed dancing around a hibachi in a meeting hall parking lot or a public park!?" I take it, you never got to go to "The Real Witches Ball" in Columbus, Oh.? Somebody always managed to have an orgy every year, although there was never any fire (& almost never any ritual either). LMAO

The Wild Hunt : Quick Note: Halloran for Congress?

I believe, whenever we find politicians from our community, we should ask questions & remind them, whether they or we like it or not, the rest of this country sees them as representations of us. Whether or not we are their constituents, we need to know where they stand. Who knows, these people could eventually gain the highest office in this country, wouldn't you like to know more about them before hand? Besides, do you think the Christian right takes things like districts into account when vetting out candidates of their faith? Why should we?

Defending & furthering the rights of his own community would in no way break his oaths. I am not talking about forcing people to convert to paganism, or instituting pagan beliefs as law, just making sure that the rights of pagans are not trampled on. (&, by extension, the rights of LBGTQ people, as they make up a large portion of our community.)

"Ok, but he wouldn't be running to represent pagans." As he is pagan/heathen, not representing pagans & pagan issues would be hypocritical in the extreme. In effect, he would be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

While I am excited at the prospect of an openly pagan candidate, I am more interested in his views on real issues. 1. Given the numbers of LGBTQ people within the pagan community, how does he stand on marriage equality, DADT, ENDA, transgender equality, etc.? 2. How does he stand on healthcare, given the poverty numbers in our community? 3. Finally, how can a member of a minority religion associate with a group known for opposition to minority rights? Just a few of the questions that need answered before we get behind any candidate. Remember, there are idiots in every community, ours is no exception.

paganus -a -um [belonging to a village , rural, rustic]; m. as subst. [a villager, countryman]. I believe this is the root of the word Pagan as it is used now, because the Romans allowed the various villages they conquered to continue worshiping as they had before, thus pagans were both "country dwellers" & of a separate faith. Seems to me, under this definition, anyone could be considered Pagan. lol

I was raised in a Pentecostal church. I can see how someone from outside the church would find dancing in the aisles & speaking in tongues a little weird. lol However, having attended a Vodou ceremony later in life, I have to say the energy in both places felt about the same to me.
