Anyone read Moneyball? I liked the movie, but know sometimes things get changed. And, I get the criticism that Moneyball overlooked the 3 stud pitchers that ripened at the same time. My pre-conception is that I agree with the concept of trying to find undervalued players, to manage the budget and to limit the talent needed to acquire these players. And, I get the on-base focus. I'm good with that. And, I'm kinda good with the concept of upgrading multiple positions to offset the loss of an expensive guy, along the lines of if the combined net matches, it doesn't matter. But, I'm not sure how "deep" it goes into the funky new stats that are being thrown out there as smarter than the classics. So, I'm thinking about giving it a read. Anyone read it?

Yeah, I get you. As long as the guys who are our 25 are shaping up right, true, that's what matters most. But, just assuming that the other teams are doing the same things in mixing players and wondering why we aren't better more, with our mixed lineup vs theirs. Just hoping what is losing these games is not what we are counting on. Again, don't really understand what is causing them, as pub on the games is scarce.

Reds spring record notso good. Not overly worried, but would like to see our guys outperform their guys. Surely they are putting the same mix out there as we are, so... ????? I don't have a clear idea as to why we are losing so much. I haven't tried to rat through the box scores, to see why. But, I hope that magically those problems will disappear in April. Anyone have any insight?

Bullpen crowding... Yeah, it sure looks like some decent guys won't make the roster. I am afraid "having options" to be sent down, might be a factor, unfortunately. For example, JJ Hoover CAN be sent down, but I would want him here. Should be interesting...

Good article on Xavier Paul. I don't understand why other teams have let him go. He has hit pretty much everywhere. I wouldn't play him over one of the three we have now, but I wouldn't feel bad if we needed him to start. I hope we can keep him and he can keep hitting like he has, pinch-hitting and giving the starters rest.

Congrats Cincy on getting a Buffet's Margaritaville! I always visit the one at Universal Studios in Orlando. It's a really neat place. I'll have to add that stop to my Cincy visit.

Side note on the Lone Ranger theme (Wm Tell Overture)... At alma mater's basketball home games (note, we are the Cowboys), at the under 8 minute timeout we have a "spirit run" where a male cheerleader runs a giant OSU flag around the entire concourse in the arena, to that song, where the fans stand when he reaches them. At the end of a lap, he takes the flag to the bottom level railing where another guy takes the flag to the floor and waves it majestically around the floor, all with the crowd clapping the beat to the overture. One of my favorite experiences of our home games. I love traditions like that.
