Dancing, Only about 1/3 of the homeless have mental health issues, and only about 1/3 have drug or alcohol issues. Some have both. That said, cities and states (Utah) that are employing a housing first response - are the ones reporting the best results in reducing homelessness. Once people have a roof over their heads, it's far easier to address their other issues. It's not an either/or. If Walmart paid an increased minimum wage of $12.50/hr, and they passed ALL the additional costs on to consumers, Walmart prices would only increase 1.1%. I am so very disappointed to learn about this. "We'll accept people who are homeless, but not 'those' people who are homeless"?!? I'm reminded of the recent vigil that took place for that elk who was shot by that cop. Hundreds showed up for that event. But in that same week, another vigil was held in the band shell at Boulder's Central Park to honor the lives of the 18 homeless people who died in Boulder County in 2012 with only a small handful of Boulder residents showing up for that event. Disgusting. I'm also reminded of the Biblical story of the destruction of Sodom. According to both Ezekiel and Jesus, that town fell out of God's favor, not because of any "homosexuality" but because of their lack of hesed (loving-kindness) and their lack of hospitality, and their oppression of the poor.
