He's still swinging at the first pitch but he did look a bit better today. Got his first hit after an 0-6 start.

Schafer looked good today. He hit the homer, forced an error by running out a grounder, stole a base, and made a couple of really nice plays in the outfield. Brooks Conrad hit one a mile foul... impressive nonetheless. Francoeur went hitless in 4 AB.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : No Griffey....Now What?

I think the Braves are making the right move here. The absolute last thing I want is to have to trade a prospect to the Yankees for one of their two possibilities and after the whole Griffey ordeal renting an aging vet suddenly doesn't sound very appealing. I figure with the amount of young talent we have somebody is bound to break through and make a statement.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : Glavine Reaches Deal With Braves

I think Glavine can be effective this year. As he has gotten older he always adapts his pitching to what works (i.e. after years of living on the outside corner in ATL he began utilizing the inside corner in NY). I'm not expecting great things out of him but there's no denying he's a crafty pitcher and hey just look at how well Moyer did last year in Philly. Hopefully his arm continues to feel as good as he says it does right now. The only thing that concerns me is if Glavine does begin to struggle will we continue giving him chances or realize it's time to pull the plug? Almost everything I have read points to a Tommy Hanson spotting in the rotation sometime this year and obviously there isn't room for 6 guys. After all the injuries we saw last year it's hard to say that all five guys will stay healthly in the first place but it's something to think about.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : Francoeur Signs Contract

According to mlbtraderumors.com Wren now says that since the Griffey deal fell through we're more likely to try out the young guys than go after veterans. They say the Braves aren't excited about Anderson, have little to no interest in Edmonds and Gonzo, and that the salaries of Nady and Swisher might be prohibitive.

I really liked having Bennett in the pen last year and making spot starts, he was a nice addition. Hopefully Logan can pinpoint whatever he was doing early last year that worked so well.

Campillo should be great working long relief. I can't wait to see Moylan back in action, I hope he can be as effective as he was before the injury.
