What LW describes (tossing, etc) is not a situation where I would take the cat AWAY from it's owner, but after a year, if the cat is happier, it stays with LW1. My sister owned a cat in a situation where she couldn't keep it, so it went to live with my mom. A few years later, she tried to move it to her new apt and the cat was super traumatized. Eventually, he had to go back to my mom's house bc he was too unhappy. Kitty may be more adaptable than my sister's cat was, maybe she would be fine, but it's not unreasonable to take their feelings into consideration.
