Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Stand Up & Lead

Can we start the Common Sense party? Its time to reject a two party system. We need common sense to prevail and while the two parties eviscerate each other we need to have people who represent our values rise up and take our country back. We must refuse to play the political games and refuse to be ignored.

weezo, I understand that George Washington had flaws, and I don't want to debate about what they were or why he had them, but does that mean that everything he ever said or did is to be discredited? If everything you'd ever done wrong in your life were documented and presented to me, would you see it fit for me to rattle off the list of wrongs you've done in an attempt to discredit everything you write on here or everything you accomplish during the rest of you life? I, for one, would prefer that I am remembered by the good things I've done, and forgiven for the bad.

weezo, That's commendable. I wasn't saying that I'M the ultimate authority over the spouse; if both spouses share this principle, then both share the ultimate authority over their family. The point of the principle is that government should not insert itself into matters over which the spouses share the ultimate authority and become the authority itself. I certainly don't believe that only one member of a given family should embrace this principle and have authority over his or her spouse. The individual IS and SHOULD BE the final authority; that's a conservative principle and that's what personal freedom is all about.

Listen, I'm a conservative, I have no desire ever to be a CEO, and I don't seek help from anyone I wouldn't help in return. I believe in the abilities of the individual, not just one group or type of individual, but EVERY individual, so I think that protecting the liberties and freedoms of ALL individuals is the only way to protect our inalienably rights and the only way to prosperity. I believe in personal responsibilty, mine and yours. I have a genuine hope that the government will get off the backs of the people so the people will realize that each of them, individually, is the answer to all of their own problems. I don't see why anyone should be afraid of that.

weezo, I like that sort of thinking. We should absolutely strive to study and truly understand exactly what was going on during the time the Constitution was established, and before, for that matter. We should also strive to study and understand exactly what was meant within the Constitution at the time it was established. I'm in the process of trying to get a copy of one of the first comprehensive dictionaries, pre-1776, because I have a sneaking suspicion that the word welfare, as stated in the federal governments ability to "promote the general welfare" has been grossly redefined since in the 200+ years since the Constitution was established.

weezo, Have you? If you have a better quote in mind for principle, "4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government," I'd love to hear it. I'm not sure whether you're taking issue with the principle or the man who's quote is below it, since any man can be cast in a negative light because all men are imperfect. The principle is whats important. Do you disagree with it? Furthermore, Jefferson new he was a flawed man. Thats why he wrote so much about limiting government; he knew that if one man or a few are the holders of all control, or government, over the rest, tyranny results, because man is flawed and will destroy the freedoms of others when given power. I'm quite sure Jefferson would be more critical of himself than you've been here, but that doesn't mean that the principle which one of his quotes supports is flawed.

You're looking for support? It didn't seem that way, seeing as you equivocate what should be a civil debate about the principles a large portion of the people in the country share to a street fight. If you disagree, I'm happy to debate you on the substance of your disagreement, but there doesn't seem to be any worthwhile aspect in supporting someone who sits idly by, sarcastically commenting against anyone who doesn't share his view.

Good morning news_across! Interesting method of insight. If I did have only one eyebrow, I'm not sure why that would reflect negatively on my morals, values, or what I type in this forum, as it seems you're implying. Tell me, how does whether a person has one or two eyebrows affect your judgement of him or her? I hadn't realized it was important.

We are using quotes from them because we believe in the principles they held dear in the constitution of this Country and we want to preserve them and we believe that no one has written those principles quite so clearly as our founders have. We also understand that understanding our founders will lead us to a deeper understanding of our Constitution so that we do not make the mistake of misinterpreting it or changing it, except of course by amendment. Jefferson was not a happy man; he had great struggles in his heart. Those struggles, in part, produced great wisdom, but wisdom itself cannot make you happy nor can it make you perfect.

I don't think its divisive and I don't think he was asking you why you don't believe in God. Noone is excluding you if you don't agree with the 2nd principle. Religion is, as you said, a personal journey. The issue CarpeDiem2009 is raising, however, is an important one. I worry about how many would answer his question, which I'll rephrase to say, "We, as Americans, hold to be self-evident that all people are equal and have inalienable rights, among those are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness; that being said, why are we equal and where do we get our rights?" Whether or not you believe in God is not my business and isn't what scares me. What scares me is that if the answer to the question above is not, "God made us equal and endowed us with our rights," then what can the answer be except for, "the State made us equal and endowed us with our rights." That answer is scary, because what the state giveth, the State may taketh away, and I am a big fan of having those rights. I think thats what CarpeDiem is getting at.

There's nothing hateful about believing in God, personal responsibility, our Founding Fathers, and our fellow American People. There's nothing hateful about wanting government to kindly discontinue its persistant progression into our personal lives in the name of some unacheivable utopian society. Nobody here is mongering anything and if you don't like our principles and values, noone is twisting your arm to be a part of our group or to post here, so I'm not sure whats upsetting you.

I give you credit for choosing your name; mediachild seems quite fitting. Regarding the rest, you're silly and you know nothing about that which you speak. The principles come from our Founding Father's as portrayed decades ago in the book, The Five Thousand Year Leap. They represent the core principles of the Founding Fathers and all of those who have sought to lead our country in the direction of the Founding Fathers. If anyone in this discussion is being manipulated, it is surely you sir.

Amen! I've been struggling with how I can be more involved and how to do my part in our 9/12 group, and the PCP idea really got me back to the essence of the 9/12 project. Glenn said when he was starting all of this that the first and most important step is to embrace the principles and values that we agree with, get back to our roots, and make sure that we are instituting the principles and values in our own lives. This reminded me of that and inspired me to take it upon myself to really get involved in local politics and do a lot of studying and self-educating and to start personally lobbying my STATE instead of focusing so much on Washington DC. We need to work this from the ground up, from our grass roots to the whitehouse! God blessed America's founding and has been doing so ever since; I think we have His help as long as we remember to ask for it!

9/12 on PCP! Anyone who saw the Tea Party 9/12 show on Friday May 1st, Judge Napolitano was talking about the ideas with which real grass roots 9/12 tea party change can be accomplished. Politically, Constitutionally, and Philosophically- PCP. Politically, those of us with the fire and the drive in our bellies need to run for office OUTSIDE of the two party system. Constitutionally, we need to petition our state legislatures to request a Constitutional Convention to outlaw the income tax and other tyrannical government policies- the notion of a Convention alone will scare the U.S. law makers into paying attention. Philosophically, we need to change the way we view our relationship with our government. I thought this was a thorough scope of what we 9/12ers are trying to do and how we need to do it.

Violated Value: Personal Responsibility; So, I was thinking, a constant perversion of the U.S. Constitution which Congress relies on for its actions is its ability to “promote the general welfare.” I thought I’d look up the definition of welfare in the dictionary to see if Congress applies it the way it was originally defined and therefore intended. I found- “wel-fare (wel’fer’) n. 1 condition of health, happiness, prosperity, etc.; well-being 2 a) the organized efforts of government agencies granting aid to the poor, the unemployed, etc. b) such aid –on welfare receiving government aid because of poverty, etc.” So… the government has so perverted the meaning of general welfare that it requires a second definition under the word in the dictionary… they literally redefined it.
