KOMO - Seattle, WA : \'The general public could save a life if they had cell phone service\' | Local & Regional | Seattle

This is the reason I went with Verizon. You might pay a bit more but their coverage is far superior to the other cell companies. Verizon has service out that way, I drive that way frequently to go hiking and backpacking. I get coverage all the way from Enumclaw to the White River Campground on Rainier. Heck you can send text messages with Verizon when up at Sunrise and the surrounding area.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Search launched for missing hiker in Cascade foothills | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, S

There is nothing odd with a person who solo hikes that is married or single for that matter. It might just be his passion, his time for a bit of solitude. That is why I do it. Also it does not state that he did not carry a compass, just no GPS. I myself rely more on the compass and map. Regardless, I truly hope he is ok. The other folks are correct, his survival rate is very high with the conditions outside.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Seattle council considers protecting breastfeeding | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sport

I sure hope that the same women who are pro breast feeding in public are also pro bikini coffee shops. So one group of people can show their boobs in public if they are breastfeeding, but the 'bikini wearing coffee girl' get's the short end of the stick by the same women. Someone chooses to go see the bikini barista, but we have no choice if you are hanging your boob out in public.

"I don't think we're asking for much, just to wake up every morning not worrying whether we can pay the rent, or whether our next meal will be rice and beans again," Larkins wrote in an email to The Associated Press Get used to it. It's life. Everyone has to work their tails off to get ahead. It takes hard work, determination and no whining to live the American dream. I am tired of people thinking they are 'owed' something.

Horrible idea, the money has to come from somewhere to pay for those extra days off. Most likely the money will come from lower wages and less hiring. People will take advantage of the extra 'sick' days. Most seem to get sick on a Friday or Monday.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Muslim border protest: \'We\'re asking for equal treatment\' | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaki

I was profiled in Chicago at the airport. Singled out of the entire line. Was told I am not allowed to go through the x-ray machine. I 'had' to get a pat down. Or should I say 'grope down'. It was wonderful, being felt up like that. Like I am some terrorist. I am just a young white dude. You get singled out just like the 90 year old women and the young kids by the TSA. It was because some idiots of the Muslim faith flew planes into our buildings. We should profile more and lay off the 90 year old women who do not pose a threat. I did not see 90 year old ladies flying planes into buildings. 'Recalling the civil rights movement, one man says he's asking for equality - and is tired of being profiled because of his Muslim beliefs.' Well sir, convince your Muslim brothers to stop blowing themselves up and trying to kill innocent people.

'The city insists 30-year-old cuts prompted by the 1970's recession are still haunting the city's transportation maintenance needs.' "For the last 10 years, we've been working hard to catch up on that maintenance," Conlin said. "And we're not in position where we can say we succeeded, but we are making progress." For Pete's sake stop adding bike lanes!! you will have more money. Also the city bicycle riders should have to pay some kind of fee to ride on the road. And triple the fines for bicycle riders who do not follow the rules of the road.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Experts: Hiking deaths highlight dangers of Great Outdoors | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking

'If a trail looks dangerous or questionable - then hikers need to have enough common sense to turn around, she says.' That pretty much sums it up. Stay safe folks, pack the ten essentials even on a short day hike, that you have done a dozen times before. Greentrailsmaps.com or REI will have the Topo maps you will need for our area. You can even watch a YouTube video on how to read a Topo map and use a compass.

I hope she pulls through. When you are out hiking you must know your limitations and when to turn around. I hike solo 99% of the time, I love the solitude. But when the little warning bell in my head goes off when I am hiking on my own, I turn the heck around.

I know that many folks thing 'poor bear'. Yes it is sad the bear had to be put down. It would have been shot eventually down the road.
KOMO - Seattle, WA : Senate passes budget as 50-mile demonstrators reach Capitol | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breakin

Among the demonstrators was Nathanial Etling, a homeless man who says state services are vital for him. "I need to be able to shower. I need to be able to shave. I need to be able to get food in my belly, so I have the energy to walk around and look for work," he said. Why did you not look for a job during your 5 day walk? It makes me sick at the vast amount of handouts that this state gives people. It just makes a lot of them lazy with more time on their hands to protest, and sit around and complain. Your little hot shower and shave is paid by your fellow tax payer, who has to get up early every morning and go to work. Just so he can be shafted with taxes to pay for your 'homeless lifestyle with benefits'.
