Let's see, the part relevant to this project is through a mobile home park, then no bike lanes and no stop lights until Pearl then no bike lanes on a narrow two-way, and often rather busy street with cars parked on both sides, to end at Canyon and all that construction. Do you even have kids?

Sad news. For years on my weekly rides I'd look forward to the opening of his stand and enjoyed our short visits when it finally did. Over the years I've learned more about squash than I ever imagined. Such a nice guy. I will miss him.

Ironic retort given we know little about him other than it appears he was having a bad trip, which some of the smartest people over the last 60 years are known to have had also. Thus, the only one here who seems the idiot, if one there need be, is you. Given the certitude with which you say he wasn't nice or smart and his death was justified, along with your apparent lack of empathy for him and his family, it surely appears the one not nice is also you.

Can we just stop imagining all deaths as legit? And should any of us kill someone, whether we chose to "put our life on the line" is no excuse. (BTW, policing isn't particularly hazardous - especially in Boulder.) The focus should be exactly where it is - on whether the officer had legitimate cause to kill someone alone on a balcony holding a hammer, even if in a threatening manner.

Right, because your say-so means so much to anyone but you. Same fallacy : If you can't handle driving a perfectly acceptable 3-lane road, you have no business driving. Tip: In a discussion it's best to know what constitutes a valid point and a fallacious one - and be able to distinguish the difference.

You are right, it's not for either of us as cyclists, but is for me as a daily commuter who sometimes can't avoid rush hour traffic (and never rain or snow). I'll assume you do indeed bike a lot and thus know biking is much safer than people give it credit. Humans are notoriously bad at assessing risk and here it translates to a fear which prevents many from riding and others to do so with trepidation. (I once was side-swiped by a momentarily distracted driver so even I, and years later, am no stranger to anxiety when riding on 4-lane Folsom with traffic.) Providing more room with plastic dividers may only increase safety slightly, but will assuage fear a great deal. The extra minute it might take to drive one mile during one of Boulder's two thirty-minute rush hours seems small price, in such a bike-friendly town, for others to be able to take up biking and feel safe while riding.

Speaking of nonsense, you've clearly missed what this is about - and for whom. It's not for cyclists going on a sunny day training ride. This is for those who do, or would like to, commute - from kids to adults - be it to school, work, the Farmers Market, etc The section on Folsom under consideration is not where it's wide and 2-lane, but 4-lane with narrow bike lanes, a third of which is gutter - so narrow I have to ride in the gutter to keep the dog trailer out of the busy road. Being more convenient for biking, thanks to the foresight of city officials, is far from Boulder being a bike-friendly place. You'll get an idea of that nonsense just by taking a ganderat all the whiny comments (and thumbs down on anything remotely positive about biking) on any Camera article on biking - including accidents where the driver was at fault. Better yet, come to the meeting tonight and hear the vitriol.

Clearly you aren't or you'd know the sections along Folsom and Iris being considered are not wide enough to be considered reasonably safe from vehicular traffic for bike commuter growth. The city is working to make it more convenient and safer for bike commuting, just as they did for the auto, and are simply turning one-mile sections of road from 4-lane to 3-lane. For hyperbolic, oh woe is me, nonsense whining see: "They're trying to engineer me out of my car! "It's going to cause (even more) gridlock! "I have to get to work! My need to pay my bills trumps your need to bike to work!" etc., etc. Remember all the whiny comments about bikers impeding traffic and making it unsafe? Now those same posters are whining about making room for just that. Au contraire, you've missed a lot. Thirty to forty years ago reality was no multi-use paths, few bike lanes, and even fewer people biked. Times change - and have changed. Catch up.

Making room for those who bike or might want to isn't "engineering" anyone out of their car. The hyperbole and self-pity, unwillingness to share or compromise, seeing biking as a competitive threat, and a "that's the reality" assertion of dominance are all symptomatic of an entitlement complex. Having been here 40 years, I am aware of something you seem to have missed - change happens.

Can't help but note the sense of entitlement when reading hyperbole over what amounts to just one mile long sections on Iris and Folsom. Punitive would be closing down streets, not potentially making it safer for everyone while only adding at most a minute or two to ones drive - and just during rush hour. And I say that as someone who bikes and lives a few blocks from Folsom and doesn't represent other interests.

Correct, I'm not retired, no one is being forced not to drive, etc. It also appears you are either unwilling or incapable of arguing your points logically and without personal insults.. I see no point in continuing this conversation. If in a year we can't get to work, were forced to bike, or even if Iris adds more than two minutes to ones commute, I'll admit I was wrong and perhaps by then you'll have matured enough to apologize for your rudeness.

What I stated were valid points presented matter-of-factly without appeal to emotion or hyperbole. You are welcome to dispute them, but to simply dismiss them as "smugness" is yet another intellectually dishonest debate tactic. As for your additional appeals, no one is prevented from driving to work, period. (But I'd still be interested in seeing if you can come up with one place from which people commute and can't take advantage of mass transit and Park-n-Rides.) Pointing out some can't bike is a red herring as no one is being forced to bike. Only one section can seriously be considered a major artery (Iris) and it's just one mile. Folsom is already a major artery for bikes, 28th for autos. The other two sections dump into two lanes anyway (and used to circumvent the major arteries of Foothills and Diagonal). Craft your argument without hyperbole, ad hominems, red herrings and appeals to emotion..
