HGTV Dream Home : Exploring the Laundry Room

it always says that - just usually goes by really quickly for me. Except for the time I said " I bet" you could find something at Stowe Hardware ...figured it scanned for potential gambling activities

This is a RANDOM DRAWING - not an essay contest where you convince HGTV of your "worthiness" or your "need".

This is NOT an essay contest - where each entrant writes a missive to convince a panel of judges that they are "worthy" of winning such a marvelous Dream House. This is a RANDOM DRAWING where every entry has the same exact chance of winning (albeit 80million to one) regardless of gender, race, location or financial status. The only requirement is that the winning entry is from someone who doesn't work for one of the SPONSORS. Yes, those same sponsors who donate their goods & services for the TV ADVERTISING they get through the HGTV and HGTV.COM

HGTV Dream Home : A Closer Look at the Doggie Dream Home

Keep it! Unfortunately our jobs aren't transferrable to Stowe - so we'd rent it out in high season (ski & foliage) and enjoy it ourselves - with family & friends in the dorm and in the kitchen - during Mud & Stick Season. The rental income should cover the property taxes, insurance, utilities and property management fees (definitely want the renter to be vetted thru an agency). That means all we have to finance is the federal/state income tax on the "prize" - which is so worth it to have the AMAZING DREAM HOME.

Our cat, Jefferson (a rescue kitty) would love snuggling in for a long winter's nap in The Kitty Dream Home. He loves having a roof over his head, like sleeping under the bed or on a chair tucked under the kitchen table - especially during thunderstorms - so having his own cozy little Dream Home would be purrfect!

Stalking? then head to Stoweflake Resort - that's the building in the background behind those icicle - which are about the same size as the ones we have in Boston right now!

Main Floor has a powder room - between the mudroom & the entry way...there are some photos toward the end of the entry way thumbnails (if my memory is correct...otherwise they are at the end of the mudroom thumbnail photos)

HGTV Dream Home : Kitchen Design and Storage Details

I choose DOOR #4 We'll take the title - pay the income tax - and rent out the DH for Ski & Foliage season. Luxury cabins in Stowe (StoweMtnResort/Stoweflake/TopNotch) go for about $2300/night. I'd look for only weekly rentals - so there is less turnover - but I figure that will cover the property tax & HOA fees. Then we can use our Dream Vacation Home for Mud, Summer & Stick Seasons (which is when we've vacationed in Stowe before, since we don't ski).

Who needs shoes with radiant heating in the floors! Kick the shoes & boots off in the mudroom! Socks will keep those floors in great shape! BTW - I'd be happy to buy a step stool for when I need to swap out the seasonal items from the highest cabinets. I bet I can pick one up at Stowe Hardward & Dry Goods

the slide out between stove and wine fridge is for cans & jars...the little railing is perfect to keep them from falling out. I think I'll keep my EVOO handy there too.

staging and real life are certainly different. For instance... in the master bedroom > The TV is nicely hidden - however there is a lamp in front of the mirrored door, which means in order to watch TV, I will need to move the lamp (which I will be happy to do, should my hubby & I win the DH). In the guest bedroom > the easy chairs are too close to the dresser to open the bottom drawers (no problem for us - we'll just not invite quests to stay for weeks, where they would bring so many clothes they need to use those bottom drawers). I'd be thrilled to spend my first few weeks in the DH re-arranging some of the accessories to make it more "me"!

The "out and out highway" is actually called Mountain Road - with posted speed limit of 25-40mph depending on where you are heading from Stowe Village up to the Notch. And that road closes at Smugglers Notch, just a little north of the new development at Spruce Peak, from first snow to spring. It's too hard to navigate since it cuts between Mt Mansfield and Spruce Peak. Not sure what highways look like where you live - but that's no highway where I come from.

HGTV Green Home : Another Chance to Win

this is one of my favorite art installations in the GH - would love to have even a single stand hanging in our city apartment. BTW - one more green thing we do is WALK. Pretty much everywhere - my husband walks to work, we walk to church, to the dry cleaner, the drug store, the hardware store.

Design Happens : Freebie Fridays: HGTV Green Home Edition

ah...now in IntenseDebate... I got our apartment building to put recycle bins in the basement - since no one has room in our tiny apartments to separate recyclables from trash - now we can recycle in the basement. Lots more in the blue recycle bins - lots less in the garbage! Also got all the lightbulbs in the common areas changed to CFL - saves energy and $$. Plus we hang most of laundry, rather than use the dryers in the laundry room.
